  3. Opening sentence M: When the fullness of time had come, God sent his Son, C: born of a woman, under the law, M: in order to redeem those who were under the law, C: so that we might receive adoption as children. (Gal 4:4-7 NRSV)

  12. CONFESSION AND ABSOLUTION M: Friends in Christ: Let us confess our sins to God our Father and ask him in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ to forgive us.

  13. CONFESSION AND ABSOLUTION C: We confess that we are born in bondage to sin and cannot free ourselves. We have sinned against you in thought, word, and deed, by what we have done and by what we have failed to do.

  14. CONFESSION AND ABSOLUTION C: We have not loved you with our whole heart, and we have not loved our neighbour as ourselves. We deserve your eternal punishment. For the sake of your Son, Jesus Christ, have mercy on us.

  15. CONFESSION AND ABSOLUTION C: Forgive us, renew us, and lead us,so that we may delight in your will and walk in your ways, to the glory of your holy name. Amen.

  16. CONFESSION AND ABSOLUTION M: I ask each of you in the presence of God who searches the heart: Do you confess that you have sinned, and do you repent of your sins? C: I do.

  17. CONFESSION AND ABSOLUTION M: Do you believe that Jesus Christ has redeemed you from all your sins, and do you desire forgiveness in his name? C: I do.

  18. CONFESSION AND ABSOLUTION M: Do you intend with the help of the Holy Spirit to live as in God's presence, and to strive daily to lead a holy life, even as Christ has made you holy? C: I do.

  19. CONFESSION AND ABSOLUTION M: As a called and ordained servant of the word, I announce the grace of God to all of you. On behalf of my Lord Jesus Christ, and by his command, I forgive the sins of all of you who repent and believe, in the name of the Father and of the Son † and of the Holy Spirit. Peace be with you.   29. PRAYER OF THE DAY M: Let us pray that through Jesus we share in God's nature. C: Almighty and merciful God, we thank you for sending your Son to become human like us, so that we might become your children. Make us who trust in Jesus to be more and more like him.

  30. PRAYER OF THE DAY For he lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.

  31. FIRST READING Isaiah 61:10 - 62:3 The Lord will save his people CEV R: : the first reading for the 1st Sunday after Christmas is written in chapter 61 of Isaiah beginning at verse 10.

  42. SECOND READING Galatians 4:4-7 God sent his Son to free us CEV R: The second reading is written in Chapter 4 of Galatians beginning at verse 4.

  43. Galatians 4:4-7 4But when the time was right, God sent his Son, and a woman gave birth to him. His Son obeyed the Law, 5so he could set us free from the Law, and we could become God's children.

  44. Galatians 4:4-7 6Now that we are his children, God has sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts. And his Spirit tells us that God is our Father. 7You are no longer slaves. You are God's children, and you will be given what he has promised. R: This is the Word of the Lord. C: Thanks be to God .
