  1. NOTEABLE DIFFERENCES BETWEEN LEGACY AND HED. Migrating from Old to New

  2. Legacy The time stays unchanged from the time you login until it is manually changed. HED The time is “dynamic”. Maintains real time entire time you are logged in. Documentation Time CAUTION!!!! You MUST make note of the time with each charting entry. Once documentation and saving is completed on one screen, the time reverts to real time!

  3. Documentation Time • HED and Legacy clocks do not talk to each other. If switching between the two applications, the times WILL be different. • Example: • If charting Current Admission information in Legacy, when going to HED for the Assessment, the time will change to the current time, not the time of the Legacy charting.

  4. HED Timer • HED times out in 15 MINUTES unless actively documenting IN HED! This means actively clicking/typing in HED. • Charting in Legacy (i.e. Clinical History), or accessing STAR Gateway is not HED, therefore is subject to the timer • Once the timeout message is received, you have ONE MINUTE to save charting!!!

  5. Legacy Click on PATIENT button on toolbar, then double click to select a patient. HED The default census displays upon entering HED One click to select patient. NO MORE double clicking! Patient Select

  6. Legacy With radio buttons: Must highlight the desired charting to remove, then click clear button on the toolbar. HED NO radio buttons! Can easily “deselect” the wrong choice. Simply click on the blank space above the incorrect selection to “clear” it. Exclusive legends(select only one that applies)

  7. Deciphering Abbreviations • Legacy • Right click the charted abbreviation to view the full spelling • HED • Simply hover over the cell with the charted result to see the full spelling.

  8. Legacy Choose the appropriate unit (i.e. lb, kg) before documenting the number. HED The units “lock in” after navigating off of the field. Hovering the mouse over the charted result will display the available conversions for that result; i.e., hovering will display weight in lbs and kgs. Charting Numbers With Units (heights, weights, temps, etc.)

  9. Legacy Allows application of WNL on all applicable classes at once HED Must chart WNL one class at a time. Charting by Exception

  10. Autolegends“Single choice” results • Legacy • Can click same result twice to place checkmark in charting field checkbox (rarely used). • HED • Must navigate mouse to the charting field to place check in check box.

  11. Charting graphs(Trend sheets, Temps) • Legacy • Allows graphs • HED • No graphing capability. Will need to view graphs from “old” flowsheets.

  12. Legacy Can see the modification history of any modified result by clicking on “Cell” from the menu bar, then Mod History. HED Does not display modification history of a charted cell. Modification History

  13. Laboratory Results • Legacy • Displays “normals” • HED • No normal values accessible. Must view the results from the “old” flowsheet if wish to view normal values.

  14. Legacy May copy forward a single result, class or an entire screen at the user’s discretion. HED Must copy everything, cannot “pick and choose”. Changes may be made to copied results before saving. Last Entry

  15. Modifying results • Legacy • Several steps required to modify a result. BIG dissatisfier. • HED • Simply click on charted results to make changes.

  16. Legacy If desired, one can move a single or multiple results, a single or multiple classes, or an entire screen at will. HED ONLY ONE result can be moved at a time! Be very “time” conscious. Moving results

  17. Inactivating Results • Legacy • Only able to inactivate ALL documentation on a screen, cannot “pick and choose”. • HED • Able to inactivate individual results or all results.

  18. Charting fields • Legacy • Legend groups appeared in columns if needed, keeping all charting information in visual field • HED • Legend groups are in single column, making some very long to sort through.

  19. Shortcuts • HED • Cannot use shift+T or shift+N for “today” and “now” in the time fields. Must manually enter the date/time.

  20. Same results multiple times on same CRV • Legacy • Same result could only appear once per screen, disallowing the possibility of placing Teaching, Protocol classes on Assessment screen since there were some duplicates. Dissatisfier! • HED • Same result may appear on same CRV. Much more flexibility in creating screens.

  21. Legacy If a value is charted outside the defined “normal” values, a warning box displays. Abnormal values are NOT marked as significant, and there is no significant feature to mark manually. HED If a value is charted outside the defined “normal” values, a warning box displays AND the result is marked significant in red! You must manually remove the significant designation. Abnormal results

  22. Age/gender appropriate charting • HED • Charting options will be more age/gender specific: • No “lactating” charting on male patients • Head circumference/fontanels only on babies • Will also be limited by security • Med/Surg units will not see ventilator settings or RASS scores • HCAs cannot access assessment charting
