    1. MYSTIC PLACES STONEHENGE

    2. Stonehenge is a megalithic monument on the Salisbury Plain in Southern England, aligned in a circle. The circular bank and ditch, double circle of bluestones(spotted dolerite), and circle of sarsen stones (some with white lintels), are concentric, and the main axis is aligned on the midsummer sunrise an orientation that was probably for ritual rather than scientific purposes. The archaeology points to a construction date between 5,000 and 3,000 years ago.

    3. THEORIES: Its original purpose is still somewhat unclear, but some have speculated that: # It was a temple made for worship of ancient earth deities

    4. # It was a prehistoric calendar. # It was a monument over King Arthurs grave. Other theories have attributed it to the # Druids # Phoenicians # Romans # Vikings # Visitors from other worlds

    5. # In the 12th century people had heard stories that giants brought the stones from Africa and built the monument. # Gerald Hawkins, a Professor of Astronomy, concluded that Stonehenge was a sophisticated astronomical observatory designed to predict eclipses.
