  7. Value • Amount of lightness or darkness

  8. Colour • Summer colors are hot – Yellow, Orange, Red • Winter colors are cold – Blue, Purple, Black • Intermediary seasons – Green

The Principles of Design • 1) Proportion - The relative size and scale of the various elements in a design • 2) Balance - Symmetrical vs. asymmetrical, a visual equilibrium • 3) Rhythm and Pattern – An easy, connected path along which the eye follows a regular arrangement of elements • 4) Emphasis – The focus of a design

The Principles of Design • 5) Variety – Elements used to create diversity and differences • 6) Contrast - The juxtaposition of opposing elements • 7) Unity – The connection between all the parts of a design • 8) Movement – To use the elements to direct the eye of the viewer from one part of the design to another
