  1. Building Task ForceSub-Committee #4 Proposal to Address Growth Within the District

  2. As a sub-committee, we reviewed the many options for addressing growth and school capacity in our secondary schools. • The option we agreed upon as the best long-term solution is: Build a new High School and house 9-12 students in all three High Schools

  3. Plan Overview • Build a new High School (probably on the South end of the Valley in the Nibley area) • House 9-12 grade students at all three high schools • Grades 6-8 will be housed at Spring Creek, Willow Valley, South Cache, Cedar Ridge, and North Cache. • Some students from North Logan 6-8 would be bussed to Spring Creek • The district could consider purchasing the seminary buildings at North Cache and South cache for additional classroom space • An additional 6-8 center would be built in North Logan 5-7 years down the road • White Pine would become an Elementary School

  4. Cost Estimation • $50 million for new High School • $1.3 million for gym an Willow Valley • $12-15 million for 608 center in North Logan; 15 acres would need to be purchased (5-7 years down the road)

  5. Disadvantages • 9th Grade in HS concerns (maturity, freshman girls and senior boys) • Possibility of elitism at one HS • Crossing Boundaries/Alignment of 6-8 feeder schools • Additional administrative and overhead costs • Must purchase additional property • Cost of 2nd gym at Willow Valley

  6. Advantages • Accommodates long-term growth • Long-term cost savings – requires fewer additional schools to be built • Leaves more funds available for retrofit of other buildings • 9th Grade in HS benefits Curriculum and Athletics • Transportation Savings – fewer buses needed with consolidation of grades (K-5, 6-8, 9-12) • No additional parking required for 9th graders as they don’t drive • North Cache and South Cache Seminary Buildings could be considered for purchase to increase capacity • Increased opportunities for students to participate in sports, band, student government, etc. • UHSAA – SV and MC remain 4A rather than going to 5A • Travel savings by playing an additional valley rival
