MEDOANET concept • capitalize on current joint achievements of an existing Mediterranean network for the promotion of Open Access. • facilitate the development of explicit and coordinated Open Access strategies and policies in the aforementioned and neighboring countries • reinforce regional coordination of strategies and structures among Member States • Partners: National Documentation Centre/NHRF (Greece; coordinator), CASPUR (Italy), CNRS (France), FECYT (Spain), Uminho (Portugal), LIBER (NL), Unottingham (UK), ENCES (Germany), U Hacettepe (Turkey) • Duration: Dec 1, 2011 to Nov 30, 2013 (24th months); Science in Society 2011, FP7, DG Research (officer: Dr. Jean Francois Dechamp)

Specific objectives • National Coordination • Mapping national strategies policies and structures, enabling new ones • Creating national processes for implementing Open Access and increasing specific policies (mandates by funders, national laws, institutional mandates, gold publishing)- National Task Forces-National Meetings in each of the countries in the fall • Coordinating the Med countries, as well as other countries • Partner workshop to discuss findings and prospects • European and International networking • A European Workshop: to take place in Feb 2012 at Minho, possibly alongside an OpenAire workshop to maximize synergies between projects • Guidelines for the implementation of OA policies • Networking and creating synergies • Outreach and Engagement • Dissemination activities, project platform and European Conference organisation • Final project conference

Mapping National Situations • Three surveys going on until June 15th in Greece, Turkey, Italy, France, Spain and Portugal, addressed to • Research Funders • Research Performing Institutions • Publishers • Kindly ask that you fill the surveys if you fall in any of the above categories and countries, or ask the appropriate person to do so.
