Controversy Case Study • Format: 5 groups • Scientists and organisations who believe in using only adult stem cell material for research • Scientist and organisations who believe that both adult and embryonic stem cell material should be used • An alliance of religious groups who would allow limited research using adult stem-cell material or cord blood only • Pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies • Patient forums and interest groups • Each interest group prepares and then presents its case to the Citizens’ Jury. • Legal, media and citizens’ jury advisors are available Participants act as interest groups taking a stance on a controversial scientific issue (stem cells) which is receiving media attention.
