  4. Setting • Setting tells the reader where and when the story takes place.

  5. Example What is the Setting of Little Red Riding Hood? The Dark Forest

  6. Characterization • Creation of imaginary people who appear to be real to the reader. The writer gives information about the characters in the story. Who can tell me the characters of Little Red Riding Hood?

  7. A little girl around 7 or 8, dressed in red. Carries a basket, and likes to pick flowers in the wood. She has a high pitched, innocent voice. A hairy beast with long teeth and a fake smile who likes to trick little children and eat grandmothers. Has a medium pitched sneaky kind of voice. An elderly woman who is not feeling very well today. She has a weak scratchy voice that trembles a little. She likes to call the wolf “Sonny”. A strong, brave man who carries an ax. He has a deep rich voice.

  8. Plot • A series of events through which the writer reveals what is happening, to whom, and why. Once upon a time, there was a little girl

  9. Conflict • Conflict: Is a problem in the story that needs to be resolved. What is the problem?

  10. Theme The story’s main ideas. The “message” the writer intends to communicate by telling the story. Who can help me to write the theme of Little Red Riding Hood?
