  5. VO-BOX in ALICE • All services on the same machine • Cluster Monitor • Computing Element (CE) : Batch system->SunGrid • Storage Element (SE): Mass Storage System-> File • Package Manager (PackMan) • Monitoring system (MonaLisa) • The File Transfer Daemon (FTD) DongJo Kim, Jyväskylä University

ALIEN Job Status • Fluctuation of # of jobs • Isolate alice queue or submit aien jobs more often • Ask people to use “Checkpointing Jobs” • Following thinking • Meet the needs • Different needs by some other researchers • MPI jobs, CPU time per job too long • We must increate # of running jobs • Separate 13(Mgrid~ 20)+ 51(alice) out of 64 new • 51 should be on our control depending on analysis plan( alien+local ) DongJo Kim, Jyväskylä University

  7. Equal Share Sort in SunGrid • Combined with “Checkpointing Jobs” for users who doesn’t know what to do when their jobs are suspended. • Next realease of SunGrid will help more but now this can be done like this DongJo Kim, Jyväskylä University

Jyvaskyla as SE • Need for a special production now and will have more often like this • We have disks to give(1.4TB) and faster access to the data • Load of opaali front server ? • Runnig SE in vobox nfs-mounted from opaali • Running SE in opaali • Separate Server DongJo Kim, Jyväskylä University

Network Status to JYU • FUNet ( Finnish University and Research Network) • Will have a working line(10Gb?) to Jyvasklya this year(2007) • Initial discussion set last week • CSC ( Juha Oinonen ) • Jyvaslyla ( Miska Sulander ) • 2.5Gbp/s or 10Gbp, should be 10G ? • Formal request should be sent • By Tomas Linden/Jan Rak/DongJo Kim • This week to be scheduled DongJo Kim, Jyväskylä University

  10. ETC • RunTime Environment setup • Requested ~ 2 months for ROOT • Once ROOT is done, next is ALIROOT(3 more pkgs) • There are available compiled binaries • Nightly build and Production releases • VoBox does have all and mounted to opaali • Time Scale ? • Alien Job via ARC • Long term plan • Maybe this will save us a lot(P/R) • Might be a small interface or need more ?
