The role of EuroHealthNet • For over a decade, European health promotion and public health institutes and agencies have networked together to learn from and to inform relevant EU policies and programmes. • This presentation seeks to set out briefly why and how they do that – and how you can be involved in future.

EuroHealthNet development • 1992: EU Treaty first public health legal base • 1996: EC health promotion programme • 1996: 15 states’ HP agencies network - ENHPA • 2000: ENHPA opens Brussels office • 2002: Public Health Action Programme • 2003: ENHPA becomes autonomous organisation = EuroHealthNet • 2004: Largest EU enlargement ever • 2007: EU Health Strategy • 2008: EuroHealthNet has over 30 national members • 2009: New office opens in Brussels

  17. Planning ahead • In 2009 EuroHealthNet will expand by starting at least two new major pieces of work and by moving into larger new offices in Brussels just metres from the HQ of the European Commission, Councils of Ministers and European Parliament. • Why?
