In 1988 a Memorial Trust was established in memory of ambulance officer Kenneth James ‘Jim’ McPherson who died in an aerial ambulance crash along with the pilot, patient and nurse at Bundaberg on 21st June 1987.

  1. In 1988 a Memorial Trust was established in memory of ambulance officer Kenneth James ‘Jim’ McPherson who died in an aerial ambulance crash along with the pilot, patient and nurse at Bundaberg on 21st June 1987. Jim left a legacy of commitment to ambulance education, to continued learning and developing new skills. The Trust became a Foundation in honour of Jim and all others who have given their lives in the line of duty.

  2. About the Foundation In 1988 a program of awards to winners of skills competitions commenced. In 2001 further professional and personal development awards were introduced and renamed as grants. Since 1988 a total of $354,455 has been awarded to 194QAS recipients.

About the Foundation Research Priorities Clinical priorities including acute respiratory events, trauma management, clinical decision making and area medical management Educational issues such as delivery methods and professional development strategies Operational systems issues including capacity development, impact of health information/advice services on QAS activity levels

  4. Patron Major General John Pearn AO, RFD Aprominent Australian who has assisted and supported ambulance clinical activity for many years. Aleader in the field of Child Health with extensive research publications. Past Surgeon General in the Australian Defence Force with extensive experience in academic systems, clinical practice, military and civilian health systems and third world disaster response.

  7. Contributions - Local Ambulance Committees These currently range from $50 to$5000 and have increased to over $33,000 from 2004 to 2018.
