  3. Ignatian • Any person who practices the philosophy and spiritual practice of St. Ignatius

  4. Jesuit • Any man who has taken the vows of religious life (chastity, poverty, and obedience) within the Society of Jesus. • Follows the spiritual teachings of St. Ignatius

  5. IHS • First Three Letters of Jesus’ name in Greek • Symbol/emblem of the society of Jesus

  6. Ad Maiorem Dei Gloriam • “For the Greater Glory of God” • Common saying amongst Jesuits and their followers • Everything we do should be done with the intent of celebrating God’s glory.

  7. “Finding God in All Things” • God is infused in all creation, thus God is inherently apart of everything, tangible or intangible. • Example: God is in both your ideas and your spicy buff

  8. Laity • Members of the Church that are not ordained or have taken purpetual vows of poverty, chastity, and obedience. • “Regular People”

  9. Religious • Priests, Brothers, or Nuns who have vowed to live a religious life by taking the vows of poverty, chastity, and obedience.

  10. Lay Religious • Members of a Religious Order who have taken vows, but have not been ordained by the sacrament of Holy Orders. • Example: Paddy Gilger ~ studying to be a Jesuit, has taken vows, but not yet a priest.

  11. Ordained Religious • A man who has taken religious vows and has been ordained by the sacrament of Holy Orders

  12. Diocesan (Of the Diocese) • Ordained Priests who do not belong to a particular religious order, but are assigned to a geographic location by the Church in Rome.

  13. Religious Orders • Priests, Brothers, and Nuns of Religious communities that take religious vows, and follow the philosophy and spirituality of a particular saint/group • Example: The Jesuits, Franciscans, Christian Brothers

  14. JSEA • Jesuit Secondary Education Association • Network of Jesuit High School’s in North America • 60 schools total.
