  2. What is a Weekly World Watch? The idea is simple. It is to look at current events and compare them to events spoken of in the Bible. . I hope to build up a picture of God’s hand working in the affairs of this world. God is bringing about a day when all nations will be gathered to Jerusalem to battle. At that time God will send His Son, the Lord Jesus Christ, back to this earth. Jesus will then establish God’s kingdom on earth. This kingdom will last for ever. This is our hope and the reason we watch. The following six themes will appear repeatedly in WWW: • Israel: The continuing conflict in the Middle East and focus on Jerusalem. • Europe: Its developing union, both political and religious. • Russia: Its return to anti-Western ways as Bible prophecy’s “king of the north.” • The UK and the US: Bible prophecy’s “king of the south.” • Moral standards in decline and violence on the increase. • Increasing natural disasters: including earthquake, famine etc WWW presentations in PowerPoint can be ordered as audio/visual CDs by clicking here. It is in no way meant to be exhaustive – just a look at those events I saw as significant from a Biblical point of view. Every WWW event slide has the following format. News Photo This is straight from a news report that caught my eye because it looked significant from a Biblical perspective, usually that of prophecy. HEADLINE The source of the headline and the date are included. This is the reporter’s description of the event. It is always a direct quotation from the news report and reflects the understanding of the reporter and editors. EVENT This is my comment on why the event is interesting to a Bible student. COMMENT This is normally one verse which backs up why the event that has occurred is interesting from a Biblical perspective. Please read in its context. NATO orders end to cooperation with Russia Associated Press, April, 2014 EVENT NATO's foreign ministers ordered an end to civilian and military cooperation with Russia on Tuesday and told their generals and admirals to quickly figure out ways to better protect alliance members that feel threatened by Vladimir Putin's Kremlin. The 28-member alliance, the keystone of U.S. and European security since the end of World War II, was reacting to its most serious crisis in years: Russia's unilateral annexation of Ukraine's Crimean Peninsula, which the U.S. and its allies have condemned as an illegal land grab. U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry and the other ministers, meeting at NATO headquarters in Brussels behind closed doors, unanimously agreed Tuesday on a number of measures. A civilian NATO official said the steps included the suspension of "all practical civilian and military cooperation" between NATO and Russia. Last week the G8 agreed that Russia could no longer meet with them while the current situation continued. This week NATO has ended cooperation with Russia. NATO is also considering the possible deployment and reinforcement of military assets in eastern NATO member states, such as Poland and the Baltic states. Air patrols and AWACS surveillance flights over Poland and Romania have been stepped up. NATO is a military alliance of America and European nations. The main aim of NATO was to counter the military power of the USSR which is why America was involved. Basically an attack on one of NATO’s members is considered an attack on them all. Like Europe, NATO has been expanding over the last 50 years. It has moved ever eastwards. Russia feels threatened by this and has drawn a line in the sand with Ukraine. The East West division is exactly what the two legs in Neb’s image symbolise. COMMENT BIBLE QUOTE (Daniel 2:31-33)

He will cause deceit to prosper, and he will consider himself superior Russia could take Ukraine in three days Daily Telegraph, April 2, 2014 Putin – Fierce looking, arrogant, deceitful, successful EVENT Russian forces are positioned and prepared to launch an invasion of Ukraine within 12 hours of the order being given, Nato's top general has said. Gen. Philip Breedlove, Nato’s top military official and the man in charge of drafting a response to the Russian annexation of Crimea, said in interviews on Wednesday that Russian forces on the border are poised for a three to five day operation. “It’s my opinion that they could move within 12 hours of a ‘go’,” Gen. Breedlove said in an interview with CNN. “So essentially they could move right away if given the ‘go’.” Gen. Breedlove said 40,000 Russian troops remain in border areas, despite earlier reports that Russia had withdrawn some elements of an earlier troop build-up in recent days. But he added: “40,000 doesn’t tell the story.”“This is a combined arms army with all of the pieces necessary should there be a choice to make an incursion into Ukraine,” he said. On Monday, Russian President Vladimir Putin told German Chancellor Angela Merkel he had ordered a partial withdrawal of Russian troops near the eastern border of Ukraine, according to the German government. However later on Wednesday the NATO military chief said they were not seeing any Russian troop pull-out. In fact as the article says above, Russia is ready to go into Ukraine at a moments notice. It’s not just the troops but all the logistical equipment as well that is now on the border on Ukraine. The Bible speaks about a man living at the time of the end who is associated with the ancient king of the north. We read in great detail of his character and even what he looks like in Daniel 8. He is of fierce countenance. He is deceitful. He is successful in whatever he does. He will be arrogant. He will destroy many and especially God’s people. The man in Daniel 8 is the exact same person as Gog in Ezekiel 38 – PUTIN. COMMENT BIBLE QUOTE (Daniel 8:17, 19, 23-25 NIV)

And the king of the South (Egypt) shall be moved with anger and shall come forth and fight with the king of the North (Syria); and he [the Syrian king] shall set forth a great multitude, but the multitude shall be given into his [the Egyptian king’s] hand. The Amplified Version adds additional detail. Notice it adds Syria next to the king of the north. Syria civil war 'kills over 150,000 people' in three years Daily Telegraph, April 1, 2014 Over 150,000 people have lost their lives since the March 2011 outbreak of the devastating civil war in Syria, according to new figures. The London based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR), which closely monitors the conflict using a network of activists and medical staff in Syria, has documented the deaths of 150,344 people. More than a third of those killed in Syria – by shellfire, air strikes and bullets – are civilians, the rights group said. Now in its third year, the war, which continues, unabated, has ravaged entire cities, leaving whole civilian neighbourhoods flattened by shell fire and air strikes. These include home-made 'barrel bombs', which when dropped from the air carve out craters several metres deep. The figures also show that at least 7,985 of the civilians killed are children. EVENT he Syrians are now identified by the United Nations as the world's largest refugee population. 4.4 million are displaced in Syria itself while a further 1.2 million have made it to increasingly cramped refugee camps in neighbouring Jordan and Lebanon. The March 2011 peaceful anti-government demonstrations that marked the beginning of unrest in Syria soon spiralled into bloody civil war after fierce government suppression. As one report put it this week “Three years on, the end does not appear in sight for a country that is continuing to implode.” The Bible talks of Syria imploding at the time of the end. It speaks of Damascus becoming a ruinous heap. It speaks of the actual kingdom of Syria coming to an end. I.e. no one ruling it. The implosion of Syria is not over. Greater destruction is to come. Syria home of the ancient king of the north will be removed and be replaced by Russia. COMMENT BIBLE QUOTE (Daniel 11:11 Amplified)

Palestinians won’t recognize Israel as Jewish State Free Beacon, March 26, 2014 Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas said Tuesday that Palestinians would not recognize Israel as a Jewish state, Israel Hayom reports. Recognition of Israel as a Jewish state is one of Israel’s conditions for peace. Abbas also said he would like to see a future Palestinian state based on 1967 borders “with some adjustments.” East Jerusalem would be the capital, and there would be some Palestinian control over borders and airspace. Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas also said on Tuesday that the Palestinians are immediately applying for admittance to 15 UN agencies and conventions after Israel failed to release a fourth batch of prisoners in March. The Palestinian Authority (PA) leader held an emergency meeting in Ramallah late Tuesday, where he signed a document to join 15 UN agencies and international organizations in a televised ceremony. EVENT he COMMENT On April 29th the peace process comes to an end unless both sides can agree to extend them. John Kerry and his team have spent hundreds of hours on this but to no avail. In 12 months he has made 11 visits to Israel but it appears close to collapse now. As Mr Kerry put it, "you can lead a horse to water, but you can't make him drink." The talks have gone on now for 20 years. As the Economist put it this week “If the nine-month negotiations process reaches the end of April with no significant agreement, it will be strong evidence that negotiations are simply never going to succeed in producing the long-sought two-state solution for Israel and Palestine.” The Palestinians have pressed ahead this week on recognition of a Palestinian State with 15 UN agencies.. We don’t know exactly what will happen reference these current talks but we do know at some point all nations will be gathered to Jerusalem to battle. To watch a YouTube presentation on all this please CLICK HERE Queen meets Pope Francis for first time at Vatican BBConline, April 3, 2014 The Queen has met Pope Francis for the first time, during a one-day visit to the Italian capital, Rome. The meeting in the Vatican was described as a private one and pomp and protocol were kept to a minimum. Earlier, the Queen and Prince Philip had lunch with the Italian President, Giorgio Napolitano, and his wife Clio at the Quirinal Palace. The Queen gave the Pontiff a hamper of British produce and received a lapis lazuli orb for baby Prince George. It is the Queen's first foreign trip since a visit to Australia in 2011. The Queen and the Pope exchanged gifts inside the Vatican. Pope Francis gave the Queen a royal orb made of lapis lazuli with a silver cross on top, for her baby great-grandson Prince George. The orb is an emblem of royal power which the ancient Romans used to represent the universe, before it was adapted by Christians who added a cross on top to represent the world under Christianity. EVENT Last week we wrote about world leaders queuing up to meet the Pope. Last week it was President Obama who paid him a visit. This week is was the turn of the Queen. The Queen is more significant than one may imagine. Her Biblical titles would read as follows – Royal ruler of Tarshish, latter day Queen of Sheba, Daughter of Tyre. The Queen is specifically mentioned in Isaiah 23! We are told in v15 that Tyre will be forgotten for 70 years according to the days of one king (Royal ruler). Tyre is NOT referring to ancient Tyre because it was destroyed at the beginning of the chapter. We are told in v6 that Tyre passes to….Tarshish (Britain). Therefore Tyre in v15 exists in Britain. Therefore the royal ruler is in v15 is British. We are told in v23 that Tyre will commit fornication with the kingdoms of the world. Then said he unto them, Nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: And great earthquakes shall be in divers places, and famines, and pestilences; and fearful sights and great signs shall there be from heaven. 8.2 magnitude earthquake strikes northern Chile Daily Telegraph, April 2, 2014 Five people were killed when a powerful magnitude 8.2 earthquake struck off northern Chile on Tuesday night, setting off a small tsunami that forced the evacuation of the country's entire Pacific coast. In the city of Antofagasta, 855 miles (1,375 kilometres) north of the Chilean capital, a tsunami warning siren rang out after the quake hit to evacuate people from coastal areas. In the city of Arica, people and cars could also be seen flooding onto the streets to move to higher ground. In nearby Peru, terrified people in the city of Arequipa ran onto the streets. Local residents could be standing around on the city's pavements holding their belongings. The US Geological Survey initially reported the quake at 8.0, but later upgraded the magnitude. It said the quake struck 61 miles (99 kilometres) northwest of the Chilean city of Iquique at 8:46 p.m. (23:46 GMT) hitting a region that has been rocked by numerous quakes over the past two weeks. EVENT A small 2 metre high tsunami was caused when this powerful earthquake struck near Chile this week. There have been two fairly large earthquakes in the Los Angeles area. About 150 aftershocks, including one of magnitude-4.1, were felt since Friday night's quake. Also this week… A volcano in Peru that has not erupted in four decades spewed ash skyward on Tuesday. Peru's geological and mining agency (Ingemmet) said lava had been building up in recent weeks, and warned locals they should prepare for the possibility of more evacuations. Ecuador's Tungurahua volcano spewed molten rocks and large clouds of gas and ash near Banos, south of Quito, on Friday. Jesus said we would see earthquakes in divers places. The Greek word for “divers places” is also translated as “coast”. We are seeing earthquakes along the coastlines. We understand now that tectonic plates often run alongside a coastline.
