  5. TODAY, • the bus, • the plane, • the cash machine, • the train, • the mobile phone, • the personal computer • ARE COMMON! 2 CENTURIES AGO, • to think of getting toLondonin a few hours • WAS IMPOSSIBLE!

  6. All those inventions come from a changing period called... THE INDUSTRIAL REVOLUTION!

  9. There were new sources of energy First, Water power!

  10. Coal power! Then... • Steam power!

  11. More recently... • Oil-based fuels! • Electricity!

  13. A factory system • A large building • Lots of workers • Lots of machines

  14. Transport • Better roads, • new canals, • and... the railway!
