  2. Implementation Plan • “progress on decadal priorities will be made through the core research program, through the continued operation of existing missions and their Guest Observer (GO) programs, through the suborbital program, and through frequent Explorer opportunities.” • For gamma rays, near-term focus on addressing priorities through science of current space observatories and upcoming suborbital activities • Fermi GO program a critical feeder for the science that will drive future investigations across the gamma-ray waveband

  3. Implementation Impacts • FY 2014 budget request • $10.2M cut to Fermi. Major impact to guest investigator program. Reduces ability of gamma-ray community to support time domain astronomy (NWNH key recommendation)

  4. Going forward in Space • Collecting material for white paper on gamma-ray status and future. • Stay tuned for upcoming meetings. • Submissions to the NASA Astrophysics Roadmap. • Looking towards next decadal survey. Current situation raises major concerns for the community in the future.

  5. Going forward on the ground HAWC-30 completed. 43 tanks operating. 100 tanks by Aug. 2013. Survey coverage of N. Hemisphere. HESS giant 28-m telescope inaugurated. VERITAS camera upgraded High QE PMTs to increase sensitivity

  6. New science opportunities • Important synergies between space-based gamma-ray observatories and gravitational wave facilities coming online in the next few years.
