  2. Goals!! • Proficiency in English Literacy • Students who love reading and writing • Students who can express their thinking • Students who can create • Students who can work independently • Students who are proud of their accomplishments

  3. Schedule • 7:40-8:40 K1, Kindergarten 1 hour • 8:45-9:45 K2, Kindergarten 1 hour • 10:05-11:05 Room 2, 1st Grade 1 hour • 11:55-12:25 Room 2, 1st Grade ½ hour • 12:30-2:00 Room 8, 1st Grade 1½ hours

  4. Schedule • Minimum Day Schedule (Wednesday) • 7:40-8:10 K1, Kindergarten ½ hour • 8:15-8:45 K2, Kindergarten ½ hour • 8:45-9:45 Room 2, 1st Grade 1 hour • 10:00-11:00 Room 8, 1st Grade 1 hour

  5. What happens in Room 7? • Elements of our day: • Shared Reading • Read Aloud • Shared Writing • Independent Reading • Independent Writing • Guided Reading • Centers

  6. Shared Reading • We use a Big Book so the students can see the text

  7. Read Aloud • Books that we can think about

  8. Shared Writing • We share the pen, everyone has a white board

  9. Independent Reading • Books at their own level Minimum Reading Expectations Kindergarten Beginning of the year: Level A End of the Year: Level C 1st Grade Beginning of the year: Level C End of the Year: Level I

  10. Independent Writing • Writing they create and edit themselves

  11. Guided Reading • Small Group Instruction • Students are grouped with others that have similar abilities

  12. Centers • Independent literacy activities that happen during Guided Reading

  13. Homework • Kindergarten • Weekly packet, sent home Monday, returned on Friday • Leveled reading book, sent home Monday, returned on Friday • Weekly Reading log • 1st Grade • Daily Worksheet Monday- Thursday • Leveled reading book, sent home Monday, returned on Friday • Weekly Reading Log

  14. Homework • Optional Homework • Way to give an extra challenge • Can be returned when it is finished • Homework Folder • Only for ELA • Can be kept in backpack
