Personal Pronouns and the verb Ser. Ser. There are 3 types of Spanish verbs ( Ar , Er , Ir ) The verb “ser” means to be . The verb “ estar ” also means to be, but we will get to that later. Just like English, the verb changes depending on who the subject is .

  2. Ser • There are 3 types of Spanish verbs (Ar, Er, Ir) • The verb “ser” means to be. • The verb “estar” also means to be, but we will get to that later. • Just like English, the verb changes depending on who the subject is. • Juan is funny. They are funny.

  3. I – The first person singular • Yo • I am… = Yo soy…

  4. You (singular,informal) – The second person singular • Tú • You are… - Túeres…

  5. He/She/It/You (singular,formal) – The third person singular • Él/Ella/Usted • He is… - Éles… • She is… - Ella es… • You are… - Ustedes… • It is… - Es… *Usted is sometimes shortened to “Ud.”

  6. We – The first person plural • Nosotros/Nosotras • We (males) are… = Nosotrossomos • We (females) are… = Nosotorassomos

  7. They/You all (plural) - The second person plural • Ellos/Ellas/Ustedes • They (males) are… = Ellos son… • They (females) are… = Ellas son… • You all are… = Ustedes son… *Ustedes is sometimesshortened to “Uds.”

  8. You do not have to use the pronoun when the verb is conjugated. • Many times you will see something like this: • Soy baja. • Es cómico. • Somosinteligentes.

  9. The personal pronouns are…The “ser” forms are… YoNosotros TúEllos/Ellas/Uds Él/Ella/Ud Soy Somos Eres Son Es

  10. Fill in the correct form of Ser for each • Yo __________ cómica. • Tú __________ bonita. • Él ___________ serio. • Nosotros __________ amigos. • Ustedes __________ simpáticos.
