  2. 1. HISTORY OF THE INSTITUTE • CJSC Yerevan SRI “Plastpolymer” was founded in 1958. • The essential course of scientific activity has been synthesis of vinylacetate (VA) and polymers on its basis. • Work in this field allowed to organize over 20 large-capacity productions of VA and PVA plastics. • Achievements in the field of synthesis, of PVA plastics have found reflection in 6 monographs, numerous articles (over 1200) and 135 author’s certificates. • The scientific workers of the institute to prepare and defend 5 theses for a doctor’s degree and over 45 theses for a candidate’s degree.

  3. 2. CURRENT ACTIVITIES OF THE INSTITUTE • Synthesis of high molecular weight PVA with low branching and narrow molecular weight. • Synthesis of copolymers of VA with unsaturated carbonic acids • Synthesis of PVA, double and ternary copolymers on the basis of VA in the form of dispersions, suspensions and laquers. • Technological processes of obtainment of vinyl esters and carriers and effective catalysts for them. • Synthesis of copolymers on the basis of cloroprene with higher resistance to radiation. • The solid phase synthesis of ferroelectric polycrystalic films doped by neodymium

  4. Synthesis of copolymers of VA with UCA , high molecular weight PVA , homo- and copolymers (double and ternary) on the basis of VA as well as copolymers on the basis of cloroprene is carried out according to the following methods: - Emulsion copolymerization in aqueous medium in the presence of water-soluble initiator. - Polymerization in aqueous medium without emulsifier in the presence of water or oil-soluble initiator (OSI). - Suspension copolymerization in aqueous medium in the presence of OSI. 3. PRESENTATION OF TECHNOLOGIES

  5. Technological process of obtainment of porous carrier from natural mineral raw materials includes preliminary treatment of initial material followed by moulding and thermo-treating. Application of specially obtained salts of noble metals allows to increase efficiency of the catalyst. We propose new approach to produce KTP crystals. This approach is based on using sol.-gel technology for thin film preparation, which allows to introduce desired amounts of the doping agent into the growing crystal.

  6. The proposed polymer materials on VA basis have various applications owing to large mark assortment. The institute disposes “KNOW-HOW” over 10 marks of PVA dispersions, over 7 marks of polyvinyl alcohol, differing by molecular weight, content of residual acetate groups and natrium acetate. Their use as glues and binding agents predominate in polygraphic, textile, furniture, varnish and paint industry, also used in such specific fields as medicine, every day chemistry, and food industry 4. APPLICATION OF TECHNOLOGIES

  7. New types of carriers on the basis of native mineral raw material and high effective catalysts on their basis, can be used for processes of gas phase synthesis from olefines of vinyl and allyl monomers. Copolymers on the basis of cloroprene use as the main component at obtaining rubbers and elastomers with increased stability to  radiation. KTiOPO4 crystal is a unique non-linear optical environment. Application of these materials in electro-, integral optics, etc.

  8. The institute in the former USSR exercised scientific-technical control over more than 20 large chemical complexes, as well as kept close contacts with over 35 scientific research enterprises. Within the limits of international cooperation the institute cooperated with analogous type chemical complexes of CMEA countries, as well as chemical leading firms. Recent years are marked by reestablishment of active contacts with large chemical complexes as well as with scientific centers situated in Russia, Ukraine, Uzbekistan. At present the institute also carries out work with foreign firms from Germany, Korea , USA as well as with scientific centers in Austria ,USA, Greece ,Belgium 5. LIST OF COOPERATION PARTNERS IN THE CIS AND ABROAD

  9. 6. LIST WHICH TIPE OF COOPERATION YOU ARE LOOKING FOR • To preferable forms of cooperation in the field of thorough investigations and scientific-technical (ST) programs should refer: 1. On non commercial basis 2. On commercial basis : - Transmission of ST knowledge and technologies on license principles. - Conducting joint investigations. - Carrying into effect scientific-research work made on order. - ST cooperation within the limits of joint enterprises, or temporary ST collective bodies and laboratories.
