  3. What IS Plus 1? Plus 1 is the second semester class for the ClaytonArts Academy juniors. In this class, we learn - how to write résumés, cover letters, project plans - proper speech etiquette - how to present ourselves professionally on and off campus In this class, we are responsible for two quarter long projects or one semester long project. Our projects MUST be on campus, with the help of a mentor.

  4. The Job of the Mentor • The mentor is YOU! It can (and must be) any faculty member on Clayton Valley’s campus. • The job of the mentor is to supply a junior with a project! Communicate with your junior throughout the project to make sure you are happy with your project. At the end of the quarter or semester, the mentor is required to write a Letter of Evaluation about the project.

  5. Types of Projects • Most common projects : classroom renovation and murals • Can also put together lesson plans, PowerPoints, or posters • Projects can be anything around campus – inside or outside

Classroom Renovation • Most popular types of projects • Emily Burnham/Jackie Grohs (2011) - rebuilt planters and the Garden for Mrs. Spight • Matt Jacobsen (2012) - repainted the benches at the baseball field for Mrs. Middendorf • Troy Carlson (2012) - built a new Improv wheel for the Improv Team and Mr. Hagerstrand

  12. Lessons • Marena McGregor (2010) - created 10 PowerPoints for Ms. Hoppler’s Spanish 3 classes that highlighted 10 different Latin American countries and their cultures. All the PowerPoints were in Spanish. • Lindsey Young/Claire Pember (2011) - created a video for Mr. Bergland for his Intro to Film Studies classes • Brittany Shea (2012) - created a poster, a PowerPoint and a handout about the Atomic Bomb and applied Bloom’s Taxonomy to the decision for Ms. Dillon

Miscellaneous • Jen McLoughlin (2010) - put together a scrapbook for Jose’s (former custodian) family after his death with Ms. Lee • Sabrina Wadsworth (2011) - took photos for the school website for Mr. Hile • Grace Bogumil (2012) - remade the ClaytonArts Academy informational pamphlet for Mr. Hagerstrand
