Abraham Lincoln - Biography • Born February 12, 1809 in Hardin County, Kentucky • Moved to Indiana in 1816 • Father, Thomas Lincoln was a farmer and carpenter • Mother, Nancy Lincoln died when Abraham was 9 years old. • Stepmother, Sarah Lincoln was very close to Abraham • Only had one sibling to survive into maturity • Married Mary Todd Lincoln in Nov. 1842 • 3 children – Robert Todd, William Wallace, and Thomas “Tad”. • Both William and Thomas died before reaching adulthood • Thomas later became a lawyer and diplomat • Lincoln's formal education consisted of about 18 months of schooling; but he was an avid reader and largely self-educated • He was also skilled with an axe and was a talented local wrestler, which he credits to providing him with self-confidence
