  3. A season in review.. This year no one on the team really knew what to expect. Losing 4 key players from last year’s team meant that some players would need to step up and perform. Stumbling to a 2-4 start, the team struggled early against talented competition and tried to refocus after a tough loss to Stafford. The loss meant that if they were to have a shot at recapturing the district title, they would need to run the table against district teams and beat Stafford in a playoff match. As the year progressed, the play of the team continued to improve and when they beat Stafford on the road 5-4, that set the stage for the playoff showdown with their district rivals. The patriots were pushed and responded to turn back the Indians 5-4 and repeat as regular season champions. A strong showing against some of the state’s top teams at the EC Glass tournament showed the heart of this team. For the first time they started to realize how good they were and appreciate the success they had earned. Seeded #1, the District Tournament saw two easy victories against teams that had tested the Patriots earlier in the season. The season was capped by a final 5-1 victory over Stonewall Jackson at Wintergreen resort. Finishing 13-5 overall, 12- 1 in the district and making it to the semi-finals in the Northwest Region, this year’s team met and exceeded all expectations. Many opponents frankly did not expect them to be this good. They will be careful not to look past the Albemarle Patriots next year! Way to go ladies!! Next year the team will compete in the Spring for the first time and will look to continue the success of players like this years seniors. Seniors Tiffany, Meghan, Kim, Jenna, Sydelle, and Emily DISTRICT CHAMPS! AGAIN
