  1. 7TH Grade Science Tuning Protocol Presentation WEEK APRIL 22 (subject to change)

  2. STANDARDS AND LEARNING GOALS • GA: Grade 7 • Life Science • S7L4. Obtain, evaluate, and communicate information to examine the interdependence of organisms with one another and their environments. • a. Construct an explanation for the patterns of interactions observed in different ecosystems in terms of the relationships among and between organisms and abiotic components of the ecosystem.Show details • b. Develop a model to describe the cycling of matter and the flow of energy among biotic and abiotic components of an ecosystem.Show details • c. Analyze and interpret data to provide evidence for how resource availability, disease, climate, and human activity affect individual organisms, populations, communities, and ecosystems. • d. Ask questions to gather and synthesize information from multiple sources to differentiate between Earth’s major terrestrial biomes (i.e., tropical rain forest, savanna, temperate forest, desert, grassland, taiga, and tundra) and aquatic ecosystems (i.e., freshwater, estuaries, and marine).Show details

  3. NGSS: Crosscutting Concepts • NGSS: 6-8 • Crosscutting Statements • 1. Patterns – Observed patterns in nature guide organization and classification and prompt questions about relationships and causes underlying them. • Patterns can be used to identify cause and effect relationships. • 7. Stability and Change – For both designed and natural systems, conditions that affect stability and factors that control rates of change are critical elements to consider and understand. • Small changes in one part of a system might cause large changes in another part. • Stability might be disturbed either by sudden events or gradual changes that accumulate over time.

  4. INSTRUCTIONAL ACTIVITIES- (WORK SESSION) • Students will do class work with textbook and lessons will be retaught upon completion. • Vocabulary practice worksheets and quizzes. • Demonstration of mastery by completing chapter 20 workbook for grade • -media center dvd • - khan academy • -Discover Education

  5. STUDENT WORK • Unit 5A Interdependence of Life(Ecology) • * Where does the energy in my food come from? * Why should the health and well-being of other organisms be important to me? * Why are there fewer animals than plants? * Why are there so many different kinds of organisms? * How are we related? * Where did all that energy come from? • Unit 5A • Interdependence of Life(Biomes) * What are the characteristics of the Earth’s major terrestrial biomes? * What are the characteristics of the Earth’s major aquatic communities? THE USE OF CELL PHONES TO PLAY GAMES, READ TEXT MESSAGES, AND ANY OTHER PERSONAL USE IS A VIOLATION OF RCBOE APPROVED USE POLICY. PARENTS PLEASE CHECK YOUR CHILDS HISTORY OF USE ON THE CELLPHONE TO SEE WHEN IT IS BEING USED. THIS BEHAVIOR IS CAUSING STUDENTS TO MISS LESSONS AND MAY RESULT IN FAILING GRADES.
