Study objectives • Examine the role of e-infrastructures in the creation of global virtual research communities (gVRC) • Provide recommendations to the Commission on further support to this process and its application to other fields (e.g. education, industry, international cooperation, etc.) The role of e-Infrastructures in the creation of global virtual research communities – Final Workshop

Analytical tasks I • Gather relevant information about the impact of e-Infrastructures on gVRC • Review relevant material on the impact of e-Infrastructures and the emergence of gVRC • Sample of 15 e-Infrastructures having an impact on gVRC in different science fields • Survey on the use of e-Infrastructure within research communities • Quantitative and qualitative analysis of the gathered information for each of the identified e-Infrastructures • Quantify benefits of e-Infrastructures for gVRC • Qualitative analysis of key processes in creating gVRC • Patterns of use of e-Infrastructures by gVRC The role of e-Infrastructures in the creation of global virtual research communities – Final Workshop
