  2. Words we live by at Loving Hands “Better to light one small candle than to curse the darkness.”

  3. Introduction • What do you think when you see homeless people? What do you think can be done to help this? Well my name is Simone Brown and I will be making a program called Loving Hands Of America, this program will change the statists about homeless people. This will make you take a second look at homeless and actually listen to their story and try to help.

  4. Wings of hope • They help with disabled veterans and to get the poor served, but with all of that they will always have a different mission because of a different region. • Loving Hands works with getting jobs all around and keeping children in school, just because you are homeless you should not be denied an education.

  5. National Alliance to End Homelessness • About 250,000 people in families are homeless. Rapid re-housing and prevention are two strategies to avert and end their homelessness. • Connecting with this I thought of a housing mechanism using the Vernon Manor hotel and using its rooms like an apartment and after about 2 months you would start off low but steady paying your own rent until you could build up an income

  6. Cope Community Services • COPE is a private, nonprofit COPE offerscomprehensive programs and support for recovery from substance abuse • In Loving Hands we focus on getting you the same support and help that you need to stay clean and get back on your feet

  7. Statists • 37 million Americans living in poverty • 5 million Americans are homeless • 70% of homeless live in the central city • there are 643,067 sheltered and unsheltered homeless persons nationwide as of January 2009 • 7 million children are w/o health insurance • Hundreds of thousands of Americans are losing their jobs

  8. My Plan • Lower homeless rates in the next 18 months. My program will focus upon families and single men and women with children. This will help them to get their children in school get themselves a job a place for them to sleep and eat and a stable address.

  9. Counter-arguments • Have you every been asked the question why? Well when you do things out of the box many people ask that same question. Many think that when you do good its for a self centered reason or because it will look good as a tax write off but really I want to do it because I know homeless people I cant say that I know what their going threw but I can say that I want to help with one are at a time.

  10. Closing • I want to say thank you to every one who came out to listen to everyone at this Expo. I hope this gives you a better out look on homelessness and that one day when you see a homeless HUMAN BEING that you will think a better thought about them. Because they are just like me and you just with a little less then you. Thank you again and have a wonderful day
