  2. Outline • Introduction • Motion Estimation Algorithms • FS method • EPZS method • UMHexagonS method • MVC Schemes • Simulcast scheme • Hierarchical B frames • MVC SP/SI scheme • Result • Conclusion

  3. Introduction • MVC: Multi-View Video Coding • an amendment to H.264/MPEG-4 AVC

  4. Motion Estimation Algorithm • FS method: Full Search • EZPS method: Enhanced Predictive Zonal Search • UMHexagonS method: Unsymmetrical-cross Multi-Hexagon-grid Search

  5. EZPS Method • EZPS: Enhanced Predictive Zonal Search • Prediction vector • A={Median Predictor} • B={Collocated Block MV, Left MV, Top MV, Top-left MV, Top-right MV, (0,0)} • C={Accelerator MV, Collocated neighbor MV} • Template Square EPZS Small diamond EPZS

  6. Simulcast Scheme • Simulcast scheme • Prediction coding from time • Without space prediction coding time views I P P P P P P P I P P P P P P P I P P P P P P P I P P P P P P P

  7. MVC Scheme • Hierarchical B frames • Doubld-sided prediction • MVC Scheme • Space prediction coding

  8. MVC SP/SI Scheme • View random access • number of delay frames • SP/SI frame • Extended profile of H.264 • Streams switching • Random access

  10. Experiment Result • Encoder: JM 12.2

  11. Experiment Result • The performance of ME • QP=28, search range=32

  13. Conclusion • This article proposes a MVC scheme based on H.264 standards which, through using the new coding technologies: multiple reference frames, SP / SI frames and hierarchical B frames, significantly improves the coding efficiency and the ability of the views random access when the number of the views is relatively large.
