  2. Access Killian website for Mr. Reid’s classes. • WELCOME TO MR. REID’S CLASS, ROOM 1252. • GO TO www.miamikillianhs.net • Click on Departments, then Mathematics then look for your child’s class. • See Killian website for class procedures, notebook contract, agenda and other related materials.

  3. GEOMETRY AGENDA •  Daily PowerPoint agenda with Activities and Assignments. • Minimum 15-30 minutes of HW/night • Frequent quizzes & Tests • Test at the end of every chapter. • Notebook evaluation to be checked at random • Classroom Discussion

  5. Classroom and Grading Policies • Category Weights: • Homework and Assignments: 10% • Quizzes : 20% • Tests: 40% • Notebook Evaluation: 20% •  Participation 10%

  6. SUPPLIES REQUIRED FOR THIS GEOMETRY CLASS • One 2.0 three-ring binder • Five dividers labeled: ‘Class Requirements, Daily Activities, Bell Ringer, Investigations and Journal. Lined and plain paper ( many, many packs). One graphing calculator (TI83 Plus Calculator) or scientific calculator. Many pencils (#2). Compass, protractor, ruler (12 inch), One graph book. Items will be checked the second week of school. These items must be in class every day.

  7. Curriculum: GEOMETRY • Texts Curriculum •  Discovering Geometry: Available online at http://math.kendallhunt.com; Each class has a class pass code. [See the white board for Class Pass Code] • In this class students are expected to reason abstractly, communicate and defend own mathematical reasoning using examples, diagrams or drawings, calculate accurately, use clear definitions when addressing teacher, classmates and others.

  9. Florida End-of-Course (EOC) Assessments • In Spring of 2013 geometry students will be tested by the Florida EOC Assessment Unit. This assessment will be implemented to increase students’ achievement and improve collegeand career readiness. • The Geometry EOC Assessment will also measure student achievement of the Next Generation Sunshine State Standards (NGSSS); You can visit the website below to get information about the next available testing dates. • http://www.fldoe.org

GEOMETRY 2013: End of Course • Who will be tested in Spring 2013? • All students enrolled in and completing the following courses: • • Geometry – 1206310 • • Geometry Honors – 1206320 • Any student who completed one of the above courses during the 2012-13 school year must take the • Geometry EOC Assessment.

GEOMETRY 2013: End of Course • How will students take the test? • • The Geometry EOC Assessment will be delivered via a computer-based test (CBT) platform. • • Paper-based versions (regular print and braille) will be provided for students with disabilities who • require allowable accommodations, as specified in their Individual Educational Plans (IEPs) or Section • 504 plans.

  12. GEOMETRY EOC TESTING • Practice Test • Parents and students can check out the Geometry EOC Assessment computer-based practice test, called an ePAT. This tool is available online at www.FLAssessments.com/ePAT. Instructions for • downloading the installer software and ePAT are also located on this site. Students are required to • participate in a practice test at their school prior to testing.

Algebra 2; Pre-Requisite for Pre-Calculus • Algebra 2 • Overview: See website for Algebra 2 MDCPS Pacing Guide • A course that will prepare students for the next level • - Pre-Calculus or Pre-Calc Honors • If student is a 9th or 10th grade student, this course can put them on the AP Calculus & AP Statistics track.

How Can You Help Your Child? • Understand that TRANSITIONS are difficult - at any age • Monitor the weekly progress of your child. • Log unto parent portal; • To add students to a new Parent Account you must obtain the following: - Your child's MDCPS student ID- Parent 6 Digit PIN number (See Ms. Bonnie Carriger in the main office to get this information); - Students Date of Birth (DOB), - Student birth place State or Country, - Zip Code • 

  19. Tutorial websites • www.khanacademy.org; See student portal for this website. [It is free] • www.brightstorm.com.This website charges $29.50 per month. An excellent site for geometry. It will answer your posted question(s) within minutes. Students can also google several mathematics websites for assistance. • Students will complete online geometry activities, quizzes and tests on the website www.quia.com, (Students have their username and password) • Students will attend Cognitive Tutor labs on a weekly basis.

  20. How Can You Help KILLIAN? • Be an active participant • Volunteer to be on a committee or • club that you have a personal interest • in (ex. PTA, Sports Booster’s club, Band, volleyball, football, and cross country etc.) • The PTA needs your help this year; • Join the Killian PTA today and make a difference.
