  6. PREPARING FOR THE MOVE • Furniture • Shelving • Costing and comparisons • Colour boards and samples

  7. GET A DUMPSTER RIGHT OUTSIDE THE BACK DOOR AND FILL IT. Weed the collection, rehouse, relabel and remeasure.

  8. JUSTIFY A REMOVALIST

  9. PHYSICALLY MOVING • Develop a timeline and talk about how the move will take place • Remeasure the collection and double check the layouts • Draw a map and label it • Double check arrangements are in place to suit your timing

  10. YOU CAN’T GET EVERYTHING JUST RIGHT • The returns chute in the door • Brackets and holes in computer desks for cords • AV points and relocation of ariels • Heaters over circulation • Window locks • Fire alarm door security • Some furniture didn’t arrive • Our security system wouldn’t work with books shelved behind it • We had to upgrade the number of computer points available in the switch box. • Major leaks

  11. YOU’RE IN! AT LAST • Try to open as soon as possible to capitalize on the interest generated during the move. • We had an open day where every staff member and student just got to come and have a look on the 1st day of term. • Staff were invited for morning tea and borrowing on the last day of term. • ACCEPT PRAISE FOR A COMPLEX JOB WELL DONE!!
