  10. Synthetic fibers are the second type of Fibers. There are two categories of Synthetic Fibers: Cellulosic – A fiber that is made in a factory out of a natural substance (example wood pulp) Non - Cellulosic – A fiber that is created in a factory from a man- made source

  12. SYNTHETIC FIBERS Synthetic Fibers are generally… Filament Fibers “Filament fibers” are fibers that are long and need to be cut. They do not need to be twisted because they are already long.

  13. Synthetic Fibers include: Acrylic – Non Cellulosic - Resembles Wool - Is used in the same types of things that wool is used for, but does not absorb as effectively SYNTHETIC FIBERS

  14. Synthetic Fibers also include… Nylon – Non Cellulosic - Is the Strongest Fiber Nylon is used for heavy duty things, such as Tents, back packs, tarps, etc… - It is also used for delicate things such as stockings… SYNTHETIC FIBERS

  15. Synthetic Fibers also include… Spandex – Non Cellulosic It is the only Fiber that Stretches, It is used for Swim Wear & Active Wear SYNTHETIC FIBERS

  16. Synthetic Fibers also include… Rayon – Is a Cellulosic Fiber. - It has a drape and sheen that resembles silk. - It is also ultra absorbent. - It can hold up to ten times it’s weight. - It is used in products that need heavy absorption SYNTHETIC FIBERS

  17. Synthetic Fibers also include… Acetate - Is also a Cellulosic Fiber -Dissolves in Acetone - It has a sheen that resembles Silk. - It is the weakest fiber made and does not withstand stress. - It is used for costumes and fancy dresses. SYNTHETIC FIBERS

  19. Please Read and Follow these Instructions When you are finished with this power point, you will look over at the West Wall, where the Student Storage Closets are. Hanging on the closets are signs that will give you information about “Fibers”. Take your packet and go over to the wall and fill in the needed information from the posters. When you are finished filling in the information on “Fibers”, Ask the Teacher for fabric swatches to attach to your packet. Next, Go to the Fabrics Power point and finish your packet.
