  1. Current Status of ISUAL Project Yeou-Shin Chang of NSPO Jyh-Long Chern of NCKU Henry Heetderks of UCB October 16, 2000

  2. To obtain the global distribution of red sprites To determine the spatio-temporal dynamics of red sprites To identify the UV band emission To measure the degree of ionization in the sprite emission region To observe airglow and aurora Scientific Objectives

  3. WBS of ISUAL Project ISUAL NSPO • Project management • Integrate ISUAL into S/C • Environmental tests at satellite level • Functional/performance tests at satellite levels • PA control • Data Pre-Processing NCKU UCB Flight Instrument Test Equipment Science Team SDDC NCKU UCB • Development of ISUAL and IGSE • Development of ISD • Define Test Procedures • Ancillary Equip. for Calibration • Environmental Tests for ISUAL • Post-ship Functional Tests at NSPO • Technical Support to NSPO • Science Support • Technical Support to S/C Contractor to Check Electrical I/F by Using ETU • Technical Support for ICD • First Turn-on Evaluation • Review Meeting/ICWG • Lab. setup • Development of IGSE (2nd set) • Calibration • Support the Integration of ISUAL with S/C • Support Functional and Environmental tests at satellite level • Define System Performance Requirements • Data Analysis, Data Distribution • Early Orbit Checkout • International Cooperation • Theoretical Models • Simulation • On Board Processing Test • Mission Operation Plan • Technology Transfer • ISUAL Characteristics Handbook • ISUAL Flight Operation Handbook

  7. Layout of ISUAL On Platform

  8. ISUAL PDR held at UCB from 8/30 to 9/4. Design of the ISUAL Mechanical and optical design of SP is complete with released drawings on ftp server Mechanical design of AEP is nearly complete AEP Power System design is complete with LVPS circuit board layout complete, and Power Control board layout 60% complete AEP DPU breadboard is under test with SOH and Command circuitry checked out. Science data interface currently being installed. IGSE Computers are set up with Hardware interfaces installed Design of SOH and Command interface is undergoing Actel development system is set up and design of Science Data interface (requires Actel with PCI parallel card) has been started Current Status

  9. ISD Development Status Existing DPU breadboard will be used as the ISD System is already nearly at the level needed for the ISD UCB sees no problem with supporting a Feb, 2000 ISD delivery Science Data Distribution Center (JL, please add your comments) Current Status (con’t)

  10. Thermal Control Design- Survival Heater Lines TM and TC ICD Harness Routing (JL, please add your comments) Issues and Concerns
