Critical Industry Challenges* • Age demographics of workforce • Recruiting a diversified workforce • Attraction & awareness of youth to industry Estimate of 50-80,000 job openings in the next 5-7 years!!!!!! * Identified in American Petroleum Institute survey of oil and gas companies, 2004. Same problems exist in Petrochemical sector.

  17. What about Texas Operations? • Our average age is 44-46 • Concerned about turnover in 3-7 years • Difficulty in finding suitable candidates • Takes years to train new employees

  18. Hiring Concerns • Operators Operate equipment to produce quality product. Work a rotating shift schedule. Both inside and outside work.

  19. Hiring Concerns • Industrial Maint. Mechanics Works on equipment to ensure its peak performance and reliability. Typically a day schedule

  20. Hiring Concerns • Electrical/Instrument Maintenance Maintains/repairs electrical, instrument, and power distribution devices required in the production of our products. Typically a day schedule

  21. Pay and Benefits • Starting pay = $17.57/hour and up • Base pay after apprenticeship = about $53,000/year • 2-3 years after hire • Benefits include, but are not limited to: • 401k Plan • Health Insurance • Dental Insurance • Life Insurance • Paid Holidays • Paid Vacation • Retirement Plan

Qualifications for Hire Must: • Be at least 18 years of age • Have at least a C or better in: (high school or college) • Algebra 1 or higher math, and • Chemistry or Biology • Pass our qualifying test • Computer based • Tests math, reasoning ability, psychological fit, ability to follow instructions, etc. • Pass medical physical, background check, physical assessment, drug/alcohol tests

  25. High School Co-op Program • Piloted successfully with LHS last summer • 3 students (1-operator, 2-mechanics) • Worked as "helpers" • Students did a great job • 2 of the students are presently enrolled at TSTC-Marshall • Provided with an Eastman tuition and fees scholarship

  26. Co-op Selection Requirements Must: • Be at least 18 years old • Have at least a 3.0/4.0 GPA • Be recommended by administrators/teachers • Have a successful interview with Eastman • Consider an Operator or Mechanic job as a career choice
