  1. Expectations: • Reading should be SILENT! • No Electronics! • If I have to redirect you more than once, automatic demerit • DO NOW-Pt. 1: • GOAL TIME—12-15 minutes • Take out Reading Log • Take out homework • READ pages 34-37 of The Giver • Add RTs that you didn’t get a chance to (think about the questions you asked during discussion) • Fill in the T-Chart. I KNOW there is so much we’ve talked about that you might have forgot to add.

  2. PITW#157: Resist Gossip and Rumors.

  3. J23- Readers Journal DO NOW-Pt. 2: Is Jonas a protagonist or antagonist? Why? Who do you think is the counterpart? Why?

  4. In Fantasy Fiction: - Protagonists are usually the main characters and his or her friends -Antagonists are usually villains **The villain can be 1 character, an entire group, or a system.

  5. Next Steps: - DISCUSS homework & Do Now questions - READThe Giver. GOAL TIME: 25 minutes. While reading/listening: 1. Add RTs! Your wonderful questions are RTs, so write them, don’t always share them. 2. Add to your T-Chart

  6. QUICK WRITE: • Jonas lives in a community where you are not able do date freely, and the committee is in charge of putting couples together. What are “stirrings” a representation of in our world? How are “stirrings” and the treatment connected in maintaining this order?

  7. Does Jonas still fit the character type you predicted? Why? • What happens when you lose a child? What’s the Murmur-of-Replacement Ceremony? • How is naming different due to a Release versus a Loss? • What else did you learn about this community that surprised you?

  8. HOMEWORK: • READ: GOAL TIME—15-20 mins *Get Parent Signature! • ALWAYS add RTs as you are reading! Use the format to help you!
