  1. Unit 1: Working safely and effectively in engineering.Learning objectives for this unit:1: Apply statutory regulations and organisational safety requirements.2: Work efficiently and effectively in engineering. Keywords: Hazard Risk Employer Employee Safe system of work Work equipment Competent person Fixtures & fittings Emergency lighting Activity : Selection of PPE. List the items of PPE that a tyre fitter, a lathe operator or a motor vehicle technician would wear when working. Activity : Use the internet or library to research the kinetic lifting technique. Together with your partner prepare a poster to explain this, showing diagrams. Every one in an Engineering workshop needs to be able to work safely effectively in the workshop. While being aware of their own safety and the safety of others.

  2. Activity: The Health and Safety at Work Act is a United Kingdom Act of Parliament. This means that it has been passed by Parliament and it is now law. Research the law, look up the sections of HASAWA and explain in the chart below which sections apply to the employee or employer. In the last column a brief explanation of what the section is about.

  3. Unit 1: Working safely and effectively in engineering.Learning objectives for this unit:1: Apply statutory regulations and organisational safety requirement2: Work efficiently and effectively in engineering Keywords: Hazard Risk Employer Employee Safe system of work Assessment activity 1: Preparing for and carrying out an engineering activity. For this assessment you will need to think about an engineering activity that you have recently completed and produce a short report. This report should be in 4 sections. Images and brief statements showing how you handled materials and equipment safely. A list of bullet points stating how you selected and used PPE. 6 bullet points showing how you identified the hazards and risks. Images and short statements describing how you prepared and carried out the activities. This assessment will cover P1, 2, 3 and 5. Key words: Work equipment Competent person Fixtures & fittings Emergency lighting

  4. Unit 1: Working safely and effectively in engineering.Learning objectives for this unit:1: Apply statutory regulations and organisational safety requirement2: Work efficiently and effectively in engineering Assessment activity 2: Suppose you have been carrying out a task in a workshop and an emergency occurs for example • A fire breaks out • A person is injured • There is chemical spillage • Someone hurts their back lifting a heavy object P4 : Describe the emergency procedure which would have to be followed after an incident of this type – you only need consider one specific incident. • How would you report the incident? • Consider the documentation you would use ? • Who would you make a report to about the incident? • If someone is injured how would you get help? P6 : Produce a brief overview of how good working relationships can be maintained with colleagues. Giving 3 examples. M1 carry out a risk assessment on an engineering workplace to make recommendations on the safety of materials and equipment handling, use of personal protective equipment and the potential hazards in the area M2: Have a look at the emergency procedures that are laid down in your workshop. Pick out the three improvements that you think would make them more effective. M3: Identify how a work activity could be improved. D1: Identify strengths and areas for improvement in a working relationship D2: Write a short report in which you reflect on how interact with colleagues when carrying out practical work. Are there any things you or a colleague could do to improve the working relationship. I will observe the preparation and completion of a task. Safety Policy see homework folder.
