  2. ; The Czech Republic is a beautiful historic country lying in Central Europe and bordering Germany, Poland, Slovakia and Austria. On the territory of the approximately 78,860 km ² live 10.5 million people. It covers an area of three historical lands (Bohemia, Moravia and Silesia), withthecapital in Prague.

  3. Political situation • The Czech Republic was established in 1993 when it separated from Czechoslovakia and became an independent state. The Czech Republic is a democratic state. The head of state is the President Václav Klaus.

  4. Celebrities The Czech Republic is the homeland of many famous personalities, such as composers Leoš Janáček, Bedřich Smetana, painter Alfons Mucha and director Miloš Forman. In the sports world's Jaromír Jágr and Petr Čech.

  5. 12 Wonders of The Czech Republic • The Czech Republic currently has 12 monuments which have been inscribed on the UNESCO listand sought by tourists from around the world.

  6. Typical food and drinks • The most favourite meal in The Czech Republic is Svíčková. It‘s made of beef, a typical sauce and dumplings. The Tradicional drink is beer. The most notable brands are Pilsner Urquel and Budweiser Budvar. The southern part of The Czech Republic is full of vineyards producing special wines typical only for this area.

  7. Nightlife • Especially Prague and Brno are known for lively nightlife, because they are predominantly student cities, full of clubs and bars. The most famous is a five-storey club Karlovy lázně in Prague.
