  2. WHY? • We chose the project because we wanted to find out how many of the people in our school are athletically active

  3. Plan? • We went to the Sports director, Mr. Pignatello. • The following day he gave us the list of all the students in each grade level that participated in sports.

  4. When? • On May 18th we asked for the collected data from Mr. Pignetallo. His assistant gave us the list of all the students who played sports in high school the next day. • We counted the total number of people to find the sample size

  5. Data • Sample size = 1371 • Population of interest = High School Students • Targeted people: Students in MTHS

  6. Carrying it out? • We went to Mr. Pignatello and asked for the list of all the people who signed up for sports. • We got the list the next day • We counted the list for those who actually played sports

  7. Why we used a list • We used the list because it would give us a more accurate answer than asking each individual student • Asking each student is time consuming

  8. Biases? • People who are in marching band are not included (It’s not a sport) • Being a manager doesn’t count • Had to count the list, while also excluding those participating in marching band and sports managers

  9. Done Differently? • We could have surveyed each and every student • It would take too much time • It would lead to more problems • Less effective than counting a list of students and their extracurricular activities

Therefore, the percentage of students who play sports is not equal to 55.2% Proof

  12. Why this test? • We used this test because our statistic was a percentage and our research was a percentage

  13. Conclusion • Our research was as accurate as it could be • The only thing that could have been changed was to have a list of everyone that actually played the sport since the list we had was those who signed up for the sport

  14. Conclusion • Those that didn’t play but signed up were our outliers • Our data would have shown that less students played sports if the outlier had been accounted for

  15. Conclusion • At MTHS, 51.35% of students play a sport and the statistic we found was that 55.2% of students played
