  5. Independent or Dependent? • Drawing a heart from a deck of cards and a coin landing on tails. • Drawing two cards from a regular deck of cards and not replacing the first. • Spinning a number on a spinner and drawing a marble from a container. • Drawing 2 red marbles without replacement from a container of red and blue marbles.

Without replacing it, she draws a second toothpick. • Sue draws a card from a deck of cards and replaces it. Then she draws another card from the deck. • Josh tosses a coin and spins a spinner.

  7. Probability of Independent Events If A and B are independent events, then P(A and B) = P(A) • P(B) 1) What is the probability of flipping 4 coins and getting all tails? 2) Know it Notebook Example 2. 3) What is the probability of rolling 5 fair dice and getting all 2’s?

  8. Probability of Dependent Events If A and B are dependent events, then P(A and B) = P(A) • P(B after A) A jar contains 16 quarters and 10 nickels. What is the probability of getting 2 nickels? What is the probability of getting 2 quarters? What is the probability of getting 2 coins that are the same?
