  1. Froggy Books by Jonathan London1st Grade Level

  2. Froggy’s Sleepover • Froggy is sleeping over at Max's house for the first time. But then Froggy decides it would be a good idea to go back to his own house. Then Max gets a tummy ache and wants to go back to his own house. Back and forth they go between the two houses.

  3. Froggy’s Sleepover • Read the book to the students. • As you are reading the book to the students have them keep track of how many times Foggy and Max go back and forth. • At the end of the book ask the students the number that they came up with and make sure that everyone has the same number. Math Standard: 1.1.1: Count, read, and write whole numbers up to 100. Language Art Standard: 1.1.1: Match oral words to printed words. Gardner’s Intelligence: Mathematical/Logical (collecting data on how many times they go back and forth)

  4. Froggy’s Sleepover • Read the book to the students. • Talk to the class about what they bring to sleepovers. • Have the students write about what they did when they stayed somewhere. What was the experience like? Science Standard: 1.2.7: Write brief informational descriptions of a real object, person, place, or event using information from observations. Language Art Standard: 1.1.3: Recognize that sentences start with capital letters and end with punctuation, such as periods, question marks, and exclamation points. Gardner’s Intelligence: Intrapersonal (personal response on their sleepover)

  5. Froggy Bakes A Cake • It's Froggy's mother's birthday, and Froggy wants to bake her birthday cake all by himself. He gathers the chocolate, the sugar, the eggs, the flour, and pretty soon, Froggy has all the ingredients he needs to make... a big mess!

Froggy Bakes A Cake • Read the book to the students. • Have the students listen for the words first, second, third, etc… • As a class write down what they do in the morning using the words first, second, third, etc… Math Standard: 1.1.6: Match the number of names (first, second, third, etc) with an ordered set of up to 10 items. Language Art Standard: 1.2.2: Identify text that uses sequence or other logical order. Gardner’s Intelligence: Interpersonal (brainstorming as a class what they do in the morning)

Froggy Bakes A Cake • Read the book to the students. • As a class follow directions and the measurements on how to make cupcakes. • Make sure that everyone in their groups are getting a chance to participate. Science Standard: 1.2.1:Use whole numbers, up to 100, in counting, identifying, measuring, and describing objects and experiences. Language Art Standard: 1.2.4: Follow one-step written instructions. Gardner’s Intelligence: Bodily/Kinesthetic (hands on experiment, making cupcakes)

  8. Froggy Goes Camping • Froggy packs a lot into one week: hikes and archery lessons, food fights, scary stories and funny songs around the campfire. But only Froggy could also manage to lose his trunks during swim class and overturn his kayak with the camp director in it.

Froggy Goes Camping • Read the book to the students outside. • Since Froggy follows directions during the week at camp, have the students follow directions on how to get to certain areas around the school. For example: have the students follow directions on how to get to the playground. Math Standard: 1.4.5: Give and follow directions for finding a place or object. Language Art Standard: 1.4.6: Organize and classify information by constructing categories on the basis of observation. Gardner’s Intelligence: Naturalistic (reading the book and doing activities outside)

Froggy Goes Camping • Read the book to the students. • Have the students draw and describe what type of activities they would have their camp. “Make a map of their camp.” • Have the students talk about their camp and explain their activities. Science Standard: 1.1.1: Observe, describe, draw, and sort objects carefully to learn about them. Language Art Standard: 1.7.5: Use descriptive words when speaking about people, places, things, and events. Gardner’s Intelligence: Visual-Spatial (making a visual map of their own camp)

  11. Froggy Goes to School • Preschoolers are sure to relate to Froggy's forgetfulness, impatience, and fears. The repetitive text and funny sounds will encourage beginning readers who are sure to be attracted to the hilariously expressive illustrations.

  12. Froggy Goes to School • Read the book to the students. • The book talks about how Froggy feels on his 1st day of school. Have the students understand and make connections to how Froggy felt to how they felt on their 1st day of school. • Students will then retell their stories to the class. Math Standard: 1.6.5: Understand and use connections between two problems. Language Art Standard: 1.5.1: Write brief narratives (stories) describing an experience. Gardner’s Intelligence: Verbal-Linguistic (retelling their 1st day of school)

  13. Froggy Goes to School • Read the book to the students. • Have the students write how they felt on their 1st day of school. While the students are writing play the same music that you played on the 1st day of school. This will help to bring back memories. Science Standard: 1.2.7: Write brief informational descriptions of a real object, person, place, or event using information from observations. Language Art Standard: 1.5.4: Use descriptive words when writing. Gardner’s Intelligence: Musical (listening to music as they write)

  14. Froggy’s Halloween • As the sacred day grows nearer and nearer, Froggy spends all his time daydreaming about what costume he will wear for Halloween. Should he be a superhero? A pirate? A ghost? Finally, in the middle of the night, the day before Halloween, it hits him: he'll be the Frog Prince!

Froggy’s Halloween • Read the book to the students. • Have the students draw what their Halloween costume is going to look like this Halloween. • Students will be able to present their drawings to the class. Math Standard:1.1.10: Represent, compare, and interpret data using pictures and picture graphs. Language Art Standard: 1.7.10: Use visual aids, such as pictures and objects, to present oral information. Gardner Intelligence: Visual-Spatial (sketching their costumes)

  16. Froggy’s Halloween • Read the book to the students. • Split the students up into groups with 4 in each. • Have the students measure each other so they would know how much fabric they would need to make their Halloween costumes. Science Standard: 1.2.4: Measure the length of objects having straight edges in inches, centimeters, or nonstandard units. Language Art Standard: 1.7.9: Provide descriptions with careful attention to sensory detail. Gardner Intelligence: Bodily-Kinesthetic (moving around to measure each other)
