  21. Step # 1 The NBUP client software performs a local “inventory” of the hard disk. Step # 4 The NBUP server then sends the “compare” results to the NBUP client. The client marks all common files as logically retained and does not transfer them. Step # 3 The NBUP server compares the new inventory against its current inventory and identifies all common files and unique or needed files. Step # 5 The NBUP client then identifies which files are not already saved on the server and transfers each “unique” file only. After each new change or delta is added a new baseline is created. If there is a need to go back to a point-in-time a previous version is created by reversing the changes or deltas.
