  1. CTCB Exam Review Mission: Provide a walk through of the criteria required to: be eligible, to apply and to take the CTCB exam.

  2. Certification is a voluntary process by which a non-government agency, such as ASBA, validates an individual’s qualifications and knowledge in a specific area of professional practice based on a set of predetermined standards. In the case of tennis or track certification, the American Sports Builders Association is validating your qualification and knowledge as a tennis court track builder.

  3. Mission Statement • The purpose of certification for tennis and track builders are: • Assisting the general public in evaluating the experience and expertise of builders . • Recognizing professional tennis court or track builders who have met a designated level of experience and demonstrated a standard of knowledge. • Providing a means of identifying professionals who have met a standard of achievement. • Raising professional standards and improving the practice of tennis court or track construction.

  4. Eligible Candidates become certified by meeting eligibility requirements and by successfully completing an examination which has been validated according to accepted psychometric criteria .ASBA employs a testing company to asssit with development and validation of the examination.

  5. Eligibility Requirements • At the time of application, a candidate must have had a minimum of three years experience in tennis court construction. • Tennis court builders must demonstrate 100 eligibility points from the areas of project administration, site, sub-base and base work, consulting with the owner or design professional, coatings, fencing, lighting, tennis court maintenance and repair. To insure the candidate has broad based experience in tennis court construction, certain minimums are required. See instructions for the eligibility spreadsheet for details on eligibility points. • 3. Each candidate is required to provide three references that can verify his/her work experience and eligibility. (See Verification of Eligibility Form)

  6. RECERTIFICATION Certification for tennis court and track builders is granted for a period of three years. The certification period begins with the date certification or recertification is granted (the exam date or the deadline for submission of recertification by contact hours) and ends on December 31 three years later; i.e. certification or recertification granted as of 5/31/03 is valid through 12/31/06. Candidates may recertify either by taking the then current certification examination or by submitting an application for recertification by points. In any given year, a candidate with a recertification expiration date of 12/31 will have three opportunities to recertify during the year – an exam at the Winter Meeting or Technical Meeting, or recertification by continuing education points any time prior to the December 31 deadline. It is recommended that candidates begin the recertification process early in the year to allow themselves the most options. However, candidates cannot be recertified either by continuing education points or by examination until the year their certification expires. Candidates will be sent a reminder of their expiration to the last address listed in the ASBA database. Remember, keep your address current by notifying ASBA of any changes.

  7. 4 RECERTIFICATION BY EXAMINATION Candidates may recertify by taking the then-current certification exam under the same conditions and for the same fees as those sitting for initial certification, except that those applying for recertification need only meet the eligibility requirements stated for recertification. For additional information on the examinations, please see the Certification Handbook. RECERTIFICATION BY CONTINUING EDUCATION POINTS To qualify for recertification by continuing education points, a candidate must demonstrate eligibility (see “Eligibility” above) and demonstrate the completion of 40 approved continuing education points by submitting a Recertification Verification Form and attachments, including

Test Sites A candidate for ASBA certification may take the examination at either of the Association’s two regularly scheduled meetings, the winter meeting held in January or February or the Technical meeting held in November or December, or, by appointment at the ASBA headquarters located in Ellicott City, MD

  9. Preparing for the Examination ASBA offers the Tennis Court Guidelines and Construction Manuals. These are the principle references for questions on the examination. Technical articles in Newsline, presentations from recent Technical meetings and real world experience also will be helpful.

  10. What Is the Examination Like ? The examination consist of 100 multiple-choice questions. Each question has four choices with one correct answer. All examinations are written by certified individuals with expertise in field of tennis court building. Before an item is considered for inclusion on an examination, it is referenced, reviewed and validated by the ASBA Certification Committee. Finally, each item is edited by AMP for proper test item construction, grammatical correctness and clarity. Continued…..

The proportion of questions from each practice domain, included on the examination is based on the relative frequency and importance of each domain and task as determined in the role delineation surveys. The test percentage for the ASBA tennis court builders examination are listed in Appendices. Sample questions representative of those that may appear on the examinations are provided in Appendix C. The sample questions do not reflect the full range content or all the levels of difficulty of questions appearing on the examinations.

Passing the CTCB Exam requires a 68 or better score. • You will four hours to complete the test • There are certain recommendations on taking the test: • Read through and complete the recall type questions first. • Then go back and complete the analysis and application type questions, those you will need to spend some time figuring out.

  13. Application Materials • A signed Application Form • A Verification of Eligibility Form • A Payment Form with an attached check made payable to “ASBA” or a signed authorization for appropriate fees • An Eligibility Spreadsheet showing work completed by you or your role in work completed by your company.
