  3. PURPOSE • Share ideas on developing your brand • Discuss what is involved in developing a school culture of success and a climate of high expectations • Hear from students the effect a school’s culture and climate has on them

  7. T.R.I.B.E. • Teen Resistance and Intervention Behavioral Endorsement • Working in partnership with the Drug Education Council • 385 Students in grades 6-12 during the 2013-2014 school year • We have tested 118 students • Students will graduate with an endorsement on their diploma

T.R.I.B.E. • HOW??? • School Board Policy 5.82 allows for the testing of any student participating in extra-curricular activities • What happens if they test positive? • 1st Offense – C.A.P.P. through the Drug Education Council • 2nd Offense – More intensive drug education counseling • 3rd Offense – Loss of extra curricular privileges

T.R.I.B.E. • How was it implemented? • 39 students were chosen and brought to the gym for a informational meeting • Were given field trip forms and were told to come see Mr. Ward if they did not think they would pass • 3 came to Mr. Ward • 2 out of the 3 passed the next test • The one who failed has passed every test since February • We took 37 students to the Occupational Health Center for athletic physicals and drug testing • They went through the same process as if it was for a job

  10. Doing it the Chieftain Way • The children of Chickasaw attended over 50different schools in the Mobile County Public School System (MCPSS) • There was no sense of community or school pride • Needed something to latch on to

Doing it the Chieftain Way • Academics • Pre-AP program beginning in 6th Grade • Mandatory Study Hall for athletes who have a weekly class average below 70% • Student is ineligible is average is below 60% • Weekly progress reports • All students are strongly encouraged to participate in a minimum of two clubs or sports
