  1. Introducing OFMS National Junior Honor Society Advisers: Mrs. Steig & Mr. Bowerman

  2. What is National Junior Honor Society? • Is a national organization designed to provide 7th and 8th grade students who excel in school and community the opportunity to reach higher goals and perhaps even change the world!

  3. National Junior Honor Society Includes: • Character - Demonstrates the higheststandards of honesty and reliability; shows courtesy, concern and respect for others; observes instructions and rules, punctuality and loyalty both in and out of the classroom. • Scholarship: Demonstrates highest standards of academic excellence.

  4. Leadership Leadership - Students exercise influence on peers in upholding school ideals; contributes ideas that improve the civic life of the school; exemplified positive attitudes and inspires positive behavior in others; demonstrates academic initiative and responsibility.

  5. Citizenship • Citizenship - Student involvement in civic activities. Students demonstrate participation and responsibility through their involvement in activities such as scouting, community organizations or school activities.

  6. Community SERVICE • Service - Service consists of a student’s selfless and consistent involvement and voluntary commitment of time and energy to a program outside of the school day that benefits a community/non-profit organization.

  7. AWESOME Community Service PROJECTS • Minimum of 10 hours • Awards for top 2 students with the most community service hours • Distribute logs in the fall - Due by May 1st 2015

  8. Executive Board NJHS members will conduct a vote for their Executive Board: President Vice-President Secretary Public Relations Officer Community Service Officer

  9. Bylaws Members of the NJHS must meet membership criteria which may include Honor Roll 3.5 GPA status and/or demonstrated success in the areas of character, citizenship, leadership and service to your school and community. 7th and 8th Graders who meet the NJHS Standards of Excellence as determined by the Faculty Council will be invited to become members of the NJHS in the fall of 2014.

  10. Fall INDUCTION CEREMONY & Spring Honors Night Monday, Nov. 17, 2014 7:00 p.m. Guest Speaker: Mr. Tom Kidd Spring Honors/Service Project Night: Date to be determined.

  11. Peer Tutoring NJHS would like to run a peer tutoring program next year to support students throughout the school who may need extra help in one or more of their classes. NJHS members who register as tutors will be paired with a 6thor 7th grade student who they feel very comfortable with and one that needs/wants extra help in one or more classes. Tutoring may take place during study hall time and/or after school depending on the tutors after school activities.
