  3. Fonologie • In het Welsh verschillen de twee fonemen c en g op slechts 1 kenmerk van elkaar. In het IPA worden deze fonemen aangeduidt met respectievelijk k en g. Zowel de c(k) en de g(g) zijn plosief en velaar dorsaal, de c is echter voice, waar de g voiceless wordt uitgesproken. Cof (cofion = memory) Gof (gofaint = smith/blacksmith) Clo (cloeon = lock) Glo (glo = coal) Rhic (rhiciau = notch/nick/groove) Rhyg (rhyg = rye) Toc (toc = presently/shortly/soon) Teg (teg = fair/beautiful/fine)

Semantiek Negaties in het Welsh worden gemaakt door het bijwoord 'ni', wat 'not' betekend, voor het werkwoord te zetten waar het betrekking op heeft: Ni ddarllenodd o unrhyw lyf rau i'w blentyn. Negatie komt ook voor bij noun phrases: Cyrhaeddodd neb y castell ddoe. (‘neb’ betekent ‘no-one’) Er zijn geen aanwijzingen gevonden voor het bestaan van negatief polaire uitdrukkingen.
