  3. Group expectations • Hand work in on time • Be respectful • Be on time to lessons • No food or drinks (except water) in lessons • Mobile phones to be on silent and in bag

  5. What are the key elements of Independent Learning? • What do you think? • Motivation, passion, good relationship between teacher and student, support network and encouragement

  6. Benefits of Independent Learning Motivation and confidence Increased academic performance Increased self esteem in using different strategies in learning. STUDENT Greater awareness of where extra support is needed

  7. What is the unit about? • To focus on learning choices, methods of learning and resources, with the intention to encourage you to work independently, and also contribute effectively in a learning environment

  8. Learning outcomes of the unitBy the end of this unit, you should: • Know how to use resources to support study • Be able to present work in an appropriate style and format • Be able to manage own study • Be able to plan and develop own learning objectives

How will it be assessed? • This unit will be assessed through the completion of: • Six PASSES • Five MERITS • Three DISTINCTIONS • Which will all be covered throughout the unit in the writing frames • Throughout each task Harvard referencing MUST be used • Work is to be computerised and handed in to me/ left on my desk . DO NOT EMAIL IT- it can get lost this way!!!

  11. What resources do you use? • List the resources that you have used so far throughout your learning • How did you use them? • Why did you use them?

  12. Task 1 • Produce a booklet for new learners describing how to use each of the following (next slide) to support their study, giving examples (P1) • References need to be included using the Harvard reference system

  14. Activity • With the person next to you, think about each of the resources and consider how you have used them, and if you have not, would you? • Give an example of each (look at your list from before)

Harvard referencing • Use the following website as a guide for how to reference: https://ilrb.cf.ac.uk/citingreferences/tutorial/index.html (this will need to be copied and pasted in to the browser) • Activity: Complete Activity 1 and Activity 2 on the website and fill in the handouts. • There is also a useful guide on Moodle for referencing.
