  2. PACKET OF INFORMATION • College Fair Permission Form • Sept 10th at GCHS. This is your notification. Please sign and return only if you do NOT want your child to attend. • Ready Core Curriculum. These are the graduation requirements. • Transcript • Tennessee Scholar

  3. Transcripts • Check your child’s transcript. Make sure it is accurate. • Check your child’s transcript against the graduation requirements. Make sure your child has or is taking everything he/she needs for graduation. • You will see two GPAs and a rank.

  4. Diploma Types • Regular Diploma – have met all requirements set forth by the State of Tennessee • Distinction Diploma – will be awarded to students who attain a B average and complete one of 8 options (specifics on page 40 of handbook), one of which is students who earn 12 or more semester hours of college credit. • Honors Diploma - will be awarded to students who score at or above all of the subject area readiness benchmarks on the ACT • Distinguished Scholar Diploma – will be awarded to students who complete an all honors curriculum (specifics on page 41 of handbook) and maintain an eight semester average of 93.0.

  6. ACT • All Seniors tested last year in March, but may need to test again….. • Please see insert for future test dates and registration deadlines.

  7. ACT Benchmarks • ACT Benchmarks English 18 Reading 22 Math 22 Science 23 Students who meet a benchmark on the ACT have approximately a 50% chance of earning a B or better and approximately a 75% chance or better of earning a C or better in the corresponding college course.

Filling Out Scholarship Applications • Any scholarship information received at SGC will be: • Announced over the PA for several days— Please listen to the daily announcements 2) Posted on our school’s website Local Scholarships usually become available in the Winter/Spring. 3) Posted on scholarship bulletin board 4) Printed on the 4 senior newsletters

Coming Attractions • Ms. Beverly Vos will be here in January to help any student fill out the FAFSA • Job Shadowing, March 14, 2014 (permission form required) • There will be 4 senior newsletters sent home throughout the school year. The first one will be late September/early October. This will also be posted on our website.

  12. TELS (Tennessee Education Lottery Scholarship) • How to apply First step is to get a PIN # at www.pin.ed.gov Fill out your FAFSA ASAP after January 1, 2014! It is free to fill out the FAFSA. Go to www.fafsa.gov. Never pay to fill out FAFSA. •Hope, Aspire, Wilder-Naifeh Technical Skills Grant, General Assembly Merit, HOPE Access Grant •Know the renewal criteria!
