  2. Skåne and Denmark • Seven thousand years ago, Skåne and Denmark formed a single piece of land. The ice covering the Nordic region melted, creating the straits of Öresund. • A series of wars between Sweden and Denmark were fought in Skåne. • Skåne has been a part of Sweden since 1658. • Skåne was made a single county in 1997.

  3. Region Skåne • Region Skåne was formed on 1 January 1999. • Region Skåne is a regional organisation with responsibility for the health, medical and dental care of its inhabitants. Region Skåne is also increasingly responsible for issues affecting Skåne in the future. • The Regional Council is the highest decision- making body where important regional issues are discussed by an assembled, joint organisation.
