  3. When are we going to write our own poems?

  4. Now! • Today we will begin looking at your chance to write your own poems! • I will start by answering your questions about the project.

  5. Do we have to write our own poems? • Yes!

  6. How many poems do we have to write? • As many as you want! • At least 5.

  7. What types of poems do we have to write? At least: One concrete/shape poemOne acrostic poemOne poem using a rhyme scheme

  8. When are our poems due? • May 30th is the official due date.

  9. How do we write a poem? • The activities in the newest pages of our WebQuest will give you step by step directions. • Our next few live learning classes will be devoted to different types of poems and how to write them.

  10. Other than poems, do we have to write anything else? • Yes! There will be a written summary you will need to write when you are all done. • You will write this by using questions provided on the last page of our WebQuest.

  11. Do we have to turn the poems in? • Yes!

  12. How to we turn them in? • It is up to you! • If you would like to make a book and mail it to me I will give you an envelope (if you e-mail me and ask nicely!) • If you want to make it powerpoint or a fancy word document you can do that too! • Powerpoints and word documents will be turned in to a Dropbox.

  13. Do we have to make a book or powerpoint? • No, but you MUST get creative! • You may NOT just write some poems on paper and turn them in! • You must decorate! Use pictures, drawings, clip art, colors, etc…to make your poems as pretty to look at as they are to read!

  14. How many points is this project worth? • 100 points!

  15. How do the points work? • Your first 5 poems=50 points. • Each additional poem is worth 10 additional points. • Presenting your project in a fun way like a book, powerpoint, etc…is worth 20 points. • Your written summary is worth 20 points. • You get 10 points for following directions.

  16. What does this mean? • This means if you have a bad grade in this class you could do a good job on this project and write 10 more poems, which would earn you 200 points. • 200 points would really help bring up a bad grade!

  17. Will we get to share our poems? • Yes! During the last week of school students will have the opportunity to share their poems in class but…. • You only have to share if you want to! • You MUST turn the poems in to Mrs. K first!

  18. What if I can’t write poems? What if I am bad at it? • Writing poetry is tough stuff! The important thing is that you try your best! That is what I will grade you on!

  19. What do we have to write about? • Write poems about stuff your care about, like, or think is interesting/cool/funny! • Your poems do NOT have to be “Roses are red, violets are blue…” mushy, yucky love stuff unless that is what YOU want!

  20. Mushy love stuff? YUCK!!!!

  21. Mrs. K is nothing if not fair! • I don’t feel very comfortable writing poetry either! • In fact I haven’t had to write a poem since I took a creative writing class in high school! • While you write your poems I will also write my own and share them too!
