  2. Troubleshooting • Troubleshooting is simply the process of evaluating, in an orderly fashion the: • purpose • function • apparent symptoms • of an item, program, or system… • with the purpose of arriving at a solution that places the item back in proper usable condition.

  3. Problem-Solving • Problem-solving is the integration of troubleshooting and repairing… • and taking steps to prevent problems

  4. Problem-solving Process • Understand the tasks at hand • Understand how to accomplish those tasks

  5. Problem-solving Process • Determine whether there really is a problem • Identify the problem • Consider the activities, uses, and conditions around the system

  6. Problem-solving Process • Correct items that are found defective • Correct items that could cause a problem in the future

  8. Steps 1 and 2 • Know and understand your system • Understand enough about DOS to get a system booted up and to run a program

  10. Steps 5 and 6 • Know how to remove and insert components and operate any switches or change jumpers • Recognize text, visual, and audible clues that indicate potential problem spots.
