Background Information • Function created at HL7 Plenary Meeting in San Diego, 1998. • Objectives: • Ensure international requirements are included in V2.x and V3. • Ensure that HL7 Standards Documents are internationally understood. • Long term: make HL7 globally applicable.   3. Work Done so far - 1 • Initial focus on V2.3.2. • Proposal to PAFM on “Internationalisation of Terms” at San Diego Meeting, 1998 has been incorporated into V2.3.2 Draft: • "ERISA", "John Doe", etc. • “Winter Meeting” vs “Summer Meeting”? HL7 Int. Comm. Meeting - Toronto 1999

  4. Work Done so far - 2 • PAFM Naming Work Group • Brief: To modify the V2.3.2 person data types to accommodate international requirements. • Moderator: K. Veil • Participants: Holland, USA, Australia • Monitored & endorsed by: Germany, Finland, Canada. • 3 joint teleconferences with V3 Datatypes group (G. Schadow). HL7 Int. Comm. Meeting - Toronto 1999

Work Done so far - 3 PAFM Naming Work Group, cont… • 5 further teleconferences focussed on proposal to PAFM Meeting in Toronto. • Closure achieved on all issues. • All enhancements are backward compatible. • All meeting notes were published at: http://OurWorld.CompuServe.com/Homepages/KVeil/Names.htm HL7 Int. Work Done so far - 4 PAFM Naming Work Group, cont… • Proposal: • Expand "Middle name or initial" to allow multiple middle names. • To accommodate composite names the subcompo-nents "Family name from partner/spouse" and "Family name prefix from partner/spouse" were added. The "P" name type was obsoleted. • A "name context" subcomponent was added to allow the capture of the context in which a name type is used HL7 Int. Comm. Meeting - Toronto 1999

Work Done so far - 5 PAFM Naming Work Group, cont… • A new name type "Nick Name/Call-me Name/Street Name" to HL7 Table 200; code is "N". • The above proposal changes XPN to: <family name (ST)> & <family name prefix (ST)> & <family name from partner/spouse> (ST)> & <family name prefix from partner/spouse (ST)> ^ <given name (ST)> ^ <second and further given names or initials thereof (ST)> ^ <suffix (e.g., JR or III) (ST)> ^ <prefix (e.g., DR) (ST)> ^ <degree (e.g., MD) (IS)> ^ <name type code (ID) > ^ <name representation code (ID) ^ name context (CE) HL7 Int.
