P7 Induction Process • to facilitate meaningful pre-transfer contact between Primary and Secondary • to ensure a sharing of relevant information • to seek information and advice regarding S1 class formation • to ensure supports will be in place for pupils with additional support needs • to ensure pupils experience a smooth transition.

P7 Induction Process • Pupil Support staff visited all Primary Schools • Transition meeting convened with Primary Head Teachers • Enhanced Transition Group established and programme delivered • Girvan Academy staff attended Primary reviews • Pupil information gathered from Primary Schools and homes

Here are some facts about Girvan Academy • It was built 28 years ago in 1986 • It has 43 class rooms, 12 offices, a conference room and a • theatre • There are 56 teachers • To teach 565 pupils • There are 3 janitors, 12 school assistants, 7 admin staff, • 3 technicians, 1 librarian and 6 music instructors.

  31. Houses All pupils are in one of three House Groups which have a House Head and House Guidance Teacher Glenapp Killochan Penkill MsHarrigan Mr Scott Mrs Aitken MrsRattray Mr Booth Miss Hutchison

  32. S1 Classes S1 pupils will be set into in three different kinds of class: 1) A registration class – 1G, 1K, 1P 2) A teaching class – 1A, 1B, 1C 3) A practical class – 1.1, 1.2, 1.3, 1.4

  33. S1 Classes All pupils get taught in lots of different classrooms; have lots of different subjects, and have lots of different teachers. Your timetable will look something like this.

S1 Classes Literacy Project Every week you will attend a literacy project class where you will learn more about literacy and get to practice your literacy skills in many different activities D.D. D.D. stands for Dance and Drama Your class will do each of these for half the session each so Drama from August to December then swapping to Dance from January to May or vice versa.

  35. P7 – S1 Induction Days Wednesday 4th, Thursday 5th and Friday 6th June You will be split up into your new classes and follow your S1 timetable Friday is a Bounceback Day and will have special activities. You should go to the Theatre on the first day at 8.45am.

  36. Worries Some P7 pupils worry about moving from Primary to Secondary. What if I get bullied by the older boys and girls? • This almost never happens • If it does tell your Guidance Teacher or any other adult in the School. • Girvan Academy takes bullying very seriously

  37. Worries What if I get lost? • Ask someone – pupils and staff will be helpful • You will have pupil guides to take you around your classes What will I bring my first day? • Your normal school equipment, pen, pencil, rubber etc • Your PE kit in case you get PE – no football shirts

  38. Worries What if I am late for School? • First of all, try not to be late for school • If you are late go to the School Office • Explain why you were late. You will fill in a form and take it to your class but your guidance teacher might want to see you if you are late on more that 2 occasions. What if I miss the bus home? • Go back into School and tell the Office or you Guidance Teacher and they will help to organise getting you home.
