  2. About Our Country: • Size: Peru is South America's third largest country, covering 1,285,215 sq. km., and can be divided into three distinct geographic regions • Population: Last recorded population was in 2012 with a population of 29,987,800 people

  3. Basic Information: • Language: Peru’s official language is Spanish • Religion: More than 75 % are Catholic • Natural resources: copper, silver, gold, petroleum, timber, fish, iron ore, coal, phosphate, potash, hydropower, natural gas

  4. Mealtimes: • Peruvian’s have three main mealtimes: • Breakfast - 7:00A.M and 9:00A.M • Lunch-between Midday and 1:00P.M to 3:00P.M • Supper /Dinner- between 8.00 pm and 10.00 pm

  5. Main Ingredients: • Found in nearly every Peruvian dish are rice, potatoes, chicken, pork, lamb, and fish. • Most of these meals include one of the different kinds of "aji", or Peruvian hot pepper, which mainly are: yellow aji pepper, red aji pepper, red rocoto pepper

  7. Machu Picchu • Covering 2,430m, one of the most beautiful and impressive ancient sites in the world. • Although known locally, Machu Picchu was largely unknown to the outside world before being rediscovered in 1911 by historian Hiram.

Colca Canyon • Is a canyon of the Colca River, in the Andes mountain range, in southern Peru • It is more than twice as deep as the Grand Canyon, but the canyon’s walls are less steep. • The big attraction here, is the Andean condors. The condors can be seen at fairly close range as they float on the rising thermals.

  9. Plaza de Armas • The Plaza de Armas is the center of the historic section in Cuzco. • The original plaza was built by the Incas and was known as the “square of the warrior”. • Almost twice the current size, it functioned as the cultural center of Inca life.

Santa Catalina Monestary • Founded on October 2, 1580, the Santa Catalina Monastery in Arequipa covers a walled area of 20,000 square meters with walls, streets, walkways, stairways and small squares. • The monastery is predominantly of the Mudéjar style, and is characterized by the vividly painted walls. • It is one of the most important monasteries of colonial Peru and Latin America.
