What is “OVOP” Basic Concept of OVOP • “One Village, One Product” (OVOP) is a movement or governmental program which encourage each local area, for instance ONE VILLAGE, to create ONE PRODUCT. • It is aimed at developing human resources as well as activating local communities in regional areas. Origin and Worldwide Spread • A Japanese local government, Oita prefecture, started the first “OVOP” movement about 30 years ago, followed by many local governments/organizations in Japan. • The method of OVOP has been utilized as a tool of international cooperation for regional development. • Today, OVOP has been spread to many developed and developing countries, including APEC economies.
